Gastão de Orléans didn't even want to continue the war just to kill Solano López and neither did our troops, nobody wanted to continue that war because things were going well enough after Uruguay became independent, but he only decided to continue on because Solano López was actually literally insane and would continue with the war until every Paraguayan man was dead. Gastão de Orléans also demoted all officials involved in sackings.
