I think it's a big part of the "victimhood culture" that is also, an unofficial but huge part, of many of the modern age political ideologies. Just look at those that adhere to identity politics (Muh evil white/straight/man/CIS/etc.) or Jow Forumstards (Muh evil jew/shit skin/replacement/etc.)
At the end of the day, the ideological background is the same, that is: to dehumanized critics/opposition while all hostile actions towards the previous groups are legitimized as it's "self-defense".
