It's a problem of a subculture fostered by parents where education is bad, everyone is against you, the system owes you, being a musician/hustler/athlete is how you succeed.
My friend who is black and middle class for some reason lived in the ghetto for a year. He best summed the mindset up as, if someone works hard and has something nice, they they deserve it. Not that they can work hard and have the same shit. Someone who accomplishes something more than them? That person must have done something underhanded. He said the messed up thing is that you listen to it and believe it for an hour or so and then are like, "Wait what the fuck kind of thinking is that?"
