Holiday in Cambodia

From my city, there is a direct flight to Taipei, then to Cebu. It's waaaay cheaper than flying to Europe. What I want to know is the everyday costs. I would rent an apartment instead of a hotel.

I think you'll manage to get by with cheaper spending for daily cost if you are friend with a well-versed local (not tourist guide) prior to your visit. the exact cost is I'm not sure about because I only went on some eastern islands in the flipland while spending the night at budget hostel. beyond that, is out from me.

Yeah airbnb is what I use. I don't have any friends in the Philippines, but I do in HCM, Vietnam. I might go there. Thailand is very attractive, but the most expensive.

If crime were the reason, numbers would be dropping everywhere, not just from Europe. But the EU is still in an economic downturn and visitors from the UK are expected to plummet after Brexit. Asia is by far the stronger tourism right now. Americans are okay but they usually vacation closer to home.

If cops don't care it's because it's usually farang on farang crimes like Russians killing Russians. But I remember one time a local Russian gang killed a Thai cop and the next morning the whole gang was found summarily executed with their den cleared out. There will also be consequences if it's something that could reflect poorly on the tourism sector, like a foreign couple getting mugged or killed. But if it's one sexpat or begpacker getting killed by a drug gang, it's not like you would care either.

just stay at the family-friendly tourist spot and you'll be alright when in thailand. sketchy place like the whore and ladyboy streets, unless you're like a big guy and knows the whereabouts, just stay away from them. there's triad activity over there behind the scenes, but never get reported because muh reputation as tourist friendly spots. they'll never be honest with you with the slanty eyes and smiling face.

Americans despite having broad shoulders are in reality terrified pussies when abroad. I used to live in Europe (2011-2014) and it's embarrassing to see how Americans act abroad - like children finally leaving their homes. We/they vacation only within the US because they have this idea that it's cheaper. Wrong.

Reality is the best teacher. I've been around and I don't understand why a visitor would act like a subhuman. Regular people like myself would never be around gangs or drugs anyway.

Americans are better than most Westerners just because the ones who come here tend to be new age hippies or spiritualists from like Berkeley or whatever or they want to learn Muay Thai so they have a healthy respect for the people. Chinese are rude in that they get in the way a lot or always push their way around because that's how it works in their crowded country but Europeans and especially Brits are usually the worst. They think Thailand is like Malaysia or the Philippines or Cambodia where they can just act like colonial rulers not realizing we take a lot of pride in never being colonized and behind the smiles is hardcore nationalism.

Getting along with locals here isn't rocket surgery, just be respectful. Or line the gutter like every other British asshole who acts loud and boorish and insulting enough that he eventually pisses off the wrong people.

Well shit...that's not me. You'll be surprised at people like me that actually respect the country I am in. That's why I am not worried, however, my problem is other Americans acting stupid which reflects on me. That is why I totally avoid Americans in Europe. I like "going native" and blending in.

There's plenty like that to see here (the ruins are always popular) and it's mostly kept pristine at all times. That's one thing that disappointed me when I was in Athens. No shade on the Greeks or anything but the Parthenon was literally surrounded by garbage and refuse and it really tarnished the experience for me.

Bottom line, Thailand is for people who like having things to do, both day and night. I loved Hawaii and I still think it has the best weather on the planet but hooooly shit was it boring beyond the beaches and the cool native rituals. I lot of places just feel like LA, there's not much culture left there for normies to enjoy. But here it's everywhere.

There's so much of it and it's real diverse. Thailand was never colonized but it has been inspired by various influences while remaining its own thing. Stop by a grape vineyard if you have the time, they always have products for sale like fresh juice.

The biggest con of Thailand is it's horrible traffic.

Thailand is one of the worst countries in Asia.

Only in Bangkok and it's not even that bad anymore since the mass transit systems went up. At most you might get stuck for half an hour. In places like Jakarta you could be stuck all day.

Because shopping malls are a symbol of lifeless consumerism and capitalism. I see gigantic shopping malls in Jakarta and they look exactly the same as the ones in Singapore, lifeless. And shopping malls are starting to pop up in my home town too, which really worries me. I prefer shopping in traditional markets supporting small local businesses instead of feeding the giant chink corporate machine, and I hope tourists also do the same. Gigantic malls are not a good look.
