The Chinese have single handed made middle class home ownership effectively impossible in this country within a span of 10 years.

They are loud, rude, ruthless, and speak poor English. Japanese people are pretty introverted in comparison, Taiwanese are more friendly, and Koreans are very westernized. Koreans are the only east asians here you see having black friends or being able to say "mah nigga!" while pulling off a secret handshake.

When my family began renting our house in 1995 it had a market value of about $102,000. That was 3x the median income for our city. When we bought the home from our landlord in 2004 it was worth $128,000, just over 3.3x the median income in our city. Then around 2006 the wave of Chinese billionaires buying out houses hit our area (it's been going longer in the western parts of the country). Today in 2019 it is worth $396,000, or 6.1x the median income in our city. The only changes we have made since the initial purchase that add home value was adding a small garage.

While we are very fortunate to have gotten our home when it was still possible this Chinese market takeover has effectively ended the possibility of a lower-middle class family like ours from ever owning a home today. Thanks to a bunch of rich Chinese who have never even set their foot on Canadian soil.

I think that factors a lot into the hate. I've never had much issue with the Chinese residents of the country (again, I live out east, there are less of them, it may be worse in Vancouver). They at least live here, it's the billionaires who haven't even laid eyes on this city in their lives yet own half of it and destroy Canadian residents possibility to have a proper home and family here.
