even outside of War Games, a lot of IRL happenings are misleading. there's an often repeated story about a Chinese diesel submarine surfacing in the middle of a US aircraft carrier battle-group. The implication that is always repeated, is that the sub was undetected; otherwise, it wouldn't have been able to surface in the middle of a US carrier battle-group. maybe that's true. or maybe the US navy detected it, but wasn't going to sink a Chinese submarine and murder its entire crew during peace-time, for the crime of being a bit cheeky.
