You mean they're Turkish nationalists? They and the Hemshins have been conned into thinking they're Turks. I watched an interview with a guy from Trabzon in the middle of the mountains. He could speak an old dialect of Greek but he was convinced his ancestors were from Central Asia.
The whole "you're either Turkish or the enemy" thing really fucked with the natives up in the North East. Now they all think they're full blooded Central Asians, even though they can speak Armenian, Greek or Georgian dialects.
It's been impossible trying to research my ancestry since my grandad was from a small village. Luckily some dude wrote a book about the Hemshin and my grandads village was mentioned in it. Typical story of muslims killing all the villagers until they converted. Thanks to that and all the covering up, it's made researching ancestry impossible.
