because there is a big population
most of them can't read
Because our languages are relevant enough. People won't be speaking Swedish in 20 years
subs are for fags
>sneed's sub and dub
>previously sneeck's
it's so low quality though. why ruin a high value production with unsynced mouths

Always good for a laugh

If it was a relevance issue our children's shows wouldn't be subbed either. If you don't know the lingua franca of the time, you're pretty much an uneducated barbarian. Civilized countries that prioritize education usually invest time into teaching the lingua franca, while uncivilized countries bask in their own ignorance and as a consequence of that use dubs. It's pretty sad really.
If you are so braindead that you can enjoy capeshit you probably can only speak in your native language
tbqh no matter what the production value dubbing just ruins immersion
We dub absolutely everything too. It's rare to find a theatre where they play movies in original language.
The dub industry sprung up when Hollywood movies were already a thing but people commonly being able to fluently understand English wasn't (frankly it still isn't by my standards). And as we all know humans are creatures of habit, plus our market is large enough and our dub work is professional enough for the industry to have been able to sustain itself until the present, and I don't expect it to disappear anytime soon.
then why dont you dub pop music? imagine going to a metallica consert and this fat, bald dude in the background recites whatever james hetfield sings in german, completely flat and without any empathy. always out of sync.
>thread about dubs
>only one pair of dubs in thread
nevertheless, she CHECKED EM
First of all our dubs aren't out of sync, we're not Slovakians. Secondly lyrics are actually pretty fucking unimportant in music, all things considered. The appeal, especially to normies who just want nice background noise, is mostly melodic and rhythmic.
In fact sometimes lyrics even detract from what's otherwise a superb instrumental and even vocal performance. I just don't give a shit about the millionth person singing about finding love or losing love for the billionth time.
I guess it's due to the fact that the sound here has a much greater importance than in tv shows or movies
it's a shit joke that's basically " hehe u dumb xd"
>Secondly lyrics are actually pretty fucking unimportant in music, all things considered.
Swallow the instrumental pill, Pekka.
Yes they are. I've been through enough nights of German TV after the one English channel has exhausted all news, it's not possible to dub in a way that looks natural.
Because our population is big enough to have a market for it. Dont fucking kid yourself and be like: hurr durr we nordics dont dub because our english is so great.
No your population is so small that is was just never worth it.
That's true in regards to lip movements and one of the reasons why I've stopped watching dubs, but it's not out of sync in regards to when the character is talking.
I watched Dark with subs, how the fuck can people stand to see mouths out of sync with the voices?
One of the worst musical experiences I've ever had was when I saw a German-language musical translated to Finnish where the only thing the translators cared about was making the translation fit the melody regardless of the meaning. It was an incomprehensible mess conceptually.
>subtugal
t. likes it in the ass
We're a real nation. Not a meme nation like Holland or nodric cucks. France Spain and so on does it as well.
how are puns, rhymes and such dealt with? when something is subbed on tv here they kind of wing it, often times entire jokes are butchered
cope
If they were important, why is nobody subbing Metallica concerts?
Okay, English production don't matter
The real question is how you watch your anime?
Sub is the only answer
you can teach the lingua franca while keeping shows in your native language because usually teaching happens in school and not in front of the tv
Cope my ass, we dub everything, and there's a quality industry for that, actors like, say, Tom Cruise have the same dubber since the beginning, it would be weird to not hear him with his French voice.
>actor say pen
>dubber say kugelschreiber
shure its always synced
agree, thats why i like subs. i can turn down the volume and still what they are talking about
Lyrics aren't necessarily important if are talking solely about singles and non-conceptual albums (even then it depends on the artists, imagine listening to Tom Lehrer dubbed. Yikes). But if we include concept albums and especially musicals and operas lyrics become extremely important. Dubbing compromises the integrity of the lyrics and makes you unable to enjoy the whole product.
>actors like, say, Tom Cruise have the same dubber since the beginning
>his French voice
kek, that's pretty cool desu
The point is that if your country is civilized dubbing becomes redundant and not that subs-only is a method of teaching.
Scientology is so fucking CIA
The art of writting. Foreign puns often (always) fall flat in your mother tongue. I'm always amazed when I compare the French version and the original version, it's a crazy work.
Also the voices themselves are important, Vin Diesel is more manly in French, and Black Panther is unwatchable in English with their fake African accents, while in the French version they just speak French (inb4 it's African).
>>actor say pen
>>dubber say kugelschreiber
>there is only one fitting translation for every word
the dub would say Stift for pen, I think it's rare that we only have translations for an english word that are 2 or more syllables longer than the english one
I’m with the germs. The meaning behind lyrics is mostly superficial and adds nothing to the actual musical quality of songs. Vocals are nice but they’re nothing but a singular part of any good band. Unless you’re one of those mumble rap faggots who thinks rapping about how stressed out you are is “deep”.
>You need to watch everything subbed so you can enjoy original voices!!
French speaker ?
