>With a prepared manifesto and a banner listing their demands, Mishima stepped onto the balcony to address the soldiers gathered below. His speech was intended to inspire a coup d'état to restore the power of the emperor. He succeeded only in irritating the soldiers, and was mocked and jeered. He finished his planned speech after a few minutes, returned to the commandant's office and performed seppuku. The assisting kaishakunin duty at the end of this ritual (to decapitate Mishima) had been assigned to Tatenokai member Masakatsu Morita, who was unable to properly perform the task. After three failed attempts at severing Mishima's head, he allowed another Tatenokai member, Hiroyasu Koga, to behead Mishima. Morita then knelt and stabbed himself in the abdomen and Koga again performed the kaishakunin duty. This coup is called "Mishima jiken" (三島事件, "Mishima Incident") in Japan.

I've only completed "A Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea". And then only about 80 pages into "Spring Snow".
He's interesting. I can't tell if he's an incredibly noble soul or a complete pervert lol. He does have incredibly intelligent writings, I really enjoy when he gets very romantic (as in romanticism). I have to say "A Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea" was a bit too brutal for my tastes, though I appreciate the symbolic nature of its narrative. I'm liking "Spring Snow" a lot more but I have a feeling something is going to go very wrong at some point lol.

Those books are easy to read quickly and without thought. Proper literature needs absorption and contemplation, and in general is slower to parse because of its greater depth and meaning.
Bushido from its very conception is proto-weeaboo. Sadly a lot of things in Japan are basically taking Western concepts and perspectives and self-fetishising from them. It's not good for sincerely understanding one's past.
