Whatever you like. You can chase down little quests that villager leaders give you, or that a lord wants, you can serve as a mercenary with the upkeep costs of your party being paid by the faction you're in contract to under. Or, you can be named a Lord in a faction with your own fief that will generate income based upon the upgrades you've purchased for it. You could just be a bandit, living off slaughter, spoils, and the stores of undefended villages, or you could be an honest trader, cheaping out just enough to protect your goods from traveling bands of brigands.

Most importantly you can start your own faction once you have built enough wealth, right to rule, and clout with the other lords of the world.

the strategy is part of the long game of enriching yourself while making friendships and alliances with lords so you can split off a large section of territory when the time comes to sink the dagger into the ruler's back

Better strategy is farming honor all game, starting a new kingdom and instantly having every good natured lord slobber over your dick without ever having to do some shitty lord quest.

it's more fun to play realistically and become a Lord with too much power and wealth that the King doesn't notice.
