They were actually killed in the hospital, they had something called "starvation chambers" where patients were just locked inside for months then just trown in a mass grave, many people, mainly in the countryside, see people with mental illness as literal demons, many were abandonated in those hospitals to be "taken care", starvation chambers were latelly just conveted to normal patient rooms, even the name of the hospital "Barbacena" wans't changed, Brazil is surreal sometimes

Public hospices kinda still treat people like invalid subhumans here, they just don't kill you anymore, but as described it seems that they could if given the chance
