I think South Africans,just like Israelis,are always security conscious because we have to be.But that doesn’t mean that we can’t live a mostly normal life.I guess it’s no different than living in Brazil,Colombia or Mexico.Emigrating to another country isn’t for everybody.

We live in a liberal and progressive world.

I live in a small town just out of Cape Town and all the surrounding farmlands in the area was legally purchased from Coloured families who owned it for a substantial offer.They became very well off families who whent to build two large churches for the community,a school and send their kids to university.

It’s not that common and when it does happen it mostly happens with the middle class at school,work or university.
A white girl will date Colored guys over black guys because they speak the same language,have a job,a car and a house while the poor black guy,is jobless and still lives in a tin shack.It is also rather taboo to bring home a black guy to meet the family.On the flip side black families don’t want their sons dating white girls out of fear that the black culture and traditions would be lost if they wind up marrying and have kids.

My mother tongue is English but a large number of my friends are Afrikaans speakers.Don’t know much about Die Antwoord since they’re not well known here.A friend of mine recently approached me really concerned that Americans would think that all white South Africas are ‘white trash’ like Die Antwoord.
