I like that a lot better. Japan is japan, not its current governmental system. "The United States of America" is the most vague and cultureless name for a country ever. probably because it was a name someone invented and not one with proper history. actually, we should just be called columbia instead; that would have been a good genuine name. colombia can also just keep its name as well we spell it differently so there's no problem.

>"The United States of America" is the most vague and cultureless name for a country ever. probably because it was a name someone invented and not one with proper history. That's because they had specific colonial identities and it was like a placeholder. It's not like Japan hasn't been disparate peoples and states for most of its history though. You're point is moot given that 'Japanese' is a modern identity. Well, nationalism like this is a modern invention anyway. Before then people identified with class, clan, and village/town. Sometimes tribe/race too.
Noah Scott
yeah but that list was for countries where their names actually mean something but it's not translated in other languages (there may be more I don't know), and yeah I forgot to include Liechtenstein here

the short name was supposed to be "America" but given that a lot of countries use a 5 continent system Americans and other English-speaking countries have to end up with other terms to avoid ambiguity

Irrelevant to what OP is saying. Shut the fuck up

Because "Empire of Japan" was bombed into submission. Honestly more honorable to keep a short name than to play the retarded political bogus name game.
