I disagree with the concept of being sincere and repenting, especially if you know what you are doing is a sin in the first place.

For someone who is a christian/muslim to begin with and knows the laws, they should never sin and go against their laws. If someone sins and then converts to the religion and asks for repentance, then this is the only time they should be forgiven.

user, people are not monoliths incapable of ever changing. Nor we are perfect, enlightened beings. It is entirely possible to commit sin without even realizing you've done so. Therefore, it is entirely possible to ask for repentance and forgiveness after you've realized you've committed a sinful act. The sincerity and truthfulness of you call for forgiveness will be judged by God and He and only He will determine if you're worthy of joining Him in His blessed afterlife. And anyway, you should also remember that, even if you've sinned and repented truthfully, depending on the gravity of your sins, you should still be "condemned" to a period of spiritual purification in Purgatory.
