This country has a weird attitude towards nationalism. Any political expression is in bad taste (as it should be) but we sublimate those impulses into sports and get weirdly obsessive about stupid shit like hockey and winning in sports.

I was in Canada during Canada Day, and I remember thinking how crazy it was that people were painting their faces with the flag, singing the national anthem seriously, and being proud of their heritage.
