Language

Are you bilingual? Which method would you recommend to someone who is trying to learn a second language? I’m 22 and would like to learn German. I am currently thinking about using smartergerman. Any advice? Pro tips?

Nope, I'm not bilingual. I speak Spanish, English, French and Portuguese.

I hope some bilingual can help you.

>English
>Spanish, French and Portuguese
That's 2 languages though

I can't help you user. I only speak French, English and Spanish. You should stop being monolingual though.

Dirty lies

lel

I speak perfect Spanish and don’t understand Portuguese or French for shit

Just do it, it doesn't matter what anyone says if you're not learning.
That being said i highly recommend consuming a lot of content in German once you get your foot in the door.

Impossível, se falas espanhol “perfeitamente” deves ser capaz de compreender este post ao menos.

Abra a janela!!!!!!!!!!!

german will be irrelevant soon

Mas o ar-condicionado está ligado...

immersion is the only way.
have fun~

Immersion without knowing squat will just traumatise him.
I frequented classes to learn English and French. If you have no idea where to start or if you have no discipline to study on your own alone I seriously recommend it.

imaging speaking only one language

I wouldn't say I'm fully bilingual, more like "C1 - operational proficiency", and it took me a lot of time to get to being able to maintain complex conversations about anything, and with a slight accent still. As in, spending years translating lyrics or reading books or watching movies. I don't even know if you can become fully bilingual once you're an adult.
Can't help you about German, but even if you don't master the language learning it will open new doors, good luck user!

That makes up the vast vast majority for non-immigrants of anglophone countries. In the US especially. If I were to tell someone here that I speak a language other than english, I'd most likely get one of four responses:
>But why learn that instead of spanish? (If the language is not spanish.)
>That's cool I guess. Kinda weird though. When are you ever going to speak that?
>Oh, oh! How do you say ____? What about ___? x ∞
>You know that everyone will eventually learn english, right? You just waisted your time, haha.

fuck them
why do you wanna learn German? Literature?

Oh, I'm not the OP. Et je parle la français, pas l'allemand. Desole.

so youre bilingual
why did you learn french

A mix of variables. Namely, the fact it was FSI Category 1, the high amount of speakers, the high amount of native media, and the fact it wasn't spanish.

Not OP but I'm thinking about the same thing. My Mom was adopted from Germany, and my sister now lives over there. Due to getting her doctorate at Max Plank in Munich. I guess my reasons are family. My sister is dating some Turkish dude should I be worried?
