It would be harder to learn Scots, mainly because of the lack of media.

It's good as an introduction to a language and for casual exercising but as the other user said, it should really not used as a main source to learn because it's very limited.

Also some courses suck more than others. The Russian one for example doesn't even bother to introduce you to slavrunes.

Alphabets in general are easy and people are more intimidated by them than they should be imo. I taught myself the Devanagari script in a few hours the other night. Arabic is the only one that fucks with both my eyes and brain, most of all because of the unwritten vowels.

Regular cyrillic is a nice, easy to read alphabet, but cursive cyrillic is truly stupid and almost impossible to read (especially when written). Serbian is probably the worst offender because you can combine latin and cyrillic, small and capital letters and it's a huge confusing mess.

At least cursive latin script has distinct letters and the readability depends on the person who wrote it. (Serbian) cursive cyrillic has the same fucking 'tooth' for л, љ, м, ш, и, ц, т, п, г, y, џ, and I think something else I'm forgetting, even if you do your best you always end up with long strings of 'teeth' with some dashes on top and curls below.

For the basic characters like 日 or 火 you just have to remember them without any tricks, although since they come often you will have to know them to learn more advanced Kanji.

Now for the advanced Kanji. This Kanji for fish is 魚. We remember it as a story. So the fish was BOUND in a RICE FIELD then took to the FIRE to be cooked for eating.
For each Kanji I make a story like this to remember them, so I only write it out to make sure I do the correct stroke order. Usually I wouldn't write it more than once.

Gonna sign up to a beginner's class in September

First. Learn the Portuguese alphabet.
Second: Start listening to Portuguese Media.
Second of Second: Read nursery books in Portuguese and learn what words mean and use your brain to understand sentences. If you use a grammar book or a text book you are learning poorly.

I dunno I guess I'd just play around with Duolingo or something and get a little head start. September is very soon.
