Just how controlled is the chinese internet...

Just how controlled is the chinese internet? Is it possible that they might have a Jow Forums-esque meme/shitpost board with relative freedom in their web? Are you actually visited by cops if you, say, type "fuck Xi" even in private conversations on WeChat?

>relative freedom
No they aren't allowed to openly attempt to overthrow their government if that is what you are suggesting. It's just like in most countries really.

Loads of foreign sites are blocked. Social media is really monitored but I’ve heard people use memes and certain terms when they want to criticise the government and country.

chinese imageboard if you are interested

Do they have image boards with anonymity? Or in any other kind of anonymous forums, can you, say, talk shit about Xi Jinping without getting into trouble?

I heard they only crack down on those who incite protests or other rebellious activities.

>no YouTube, Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Jow Forums, imgur, Reddit, Yahoo, etc.
>no Netflix, HBO, Amazon Prime, Hulu, or any streaming services
>all porn sites are banned
>only source of news (state-approved)
oh no no no no

Same to any part of the world

It's funny because google bans chinese bots but not American ones. Really makes you think about how our media is controlled....

Well I have some bad news for ya.

Probably only used by overseas chinese and HKers/Taiwanese.

protests are legal in china as long as they arent about trying to remove the ccp or the leader

You can talk shit about Xi or the government without actually getting into trouble. At most your post might get taken down. As long as you don't try to start a movement/organize dissent it's pretty much allowed.

the site is in simplified chinese
only mainland china and singapore use simplified chinese and that definitely isnt a singapore imageboard

Lose social credit

Then make a thread there and ask if there's anyone from the mainland with no VPNs on.

>all porn sites are banned
Nothing wrong with that. It's impossible to ban all of them anyway.

This, A岛 is basically Chinese Jow Forums/2chan in everyway (website style, posting, culture). But you need to register first in order to post.

The Chinese internet spawned the winnie the pooh meme. They get around censorship with euphemisms.

People complain about the government all the time on Weibo. I've never seen anyone say something like "fuck xi" but on Bilibili someone was daring people to shit on Xi which nobody did but his comment wasn't removed.

But it's currently blocked in mainland internet, bro. See

Then why do they hate the Hong Kong protests? Why do they invade this site and reddit and spread their pro-CCP propaganda?

china isnt 1 person you fucking idiot

VPNs my fellow South American friend

>But you need to register first in order to post.
lol

They basically have ripoffs and counterparts of most of those sites anyway.
Legal on paper but the law doesn’t hesitate to crack down on them if need be, especially ones in Tibet and Xianjing.

Because things are good in mainland China. Living standards have improved tremendously since Mao's days.

Hong Kong is being eclipsed by mainland cities and their cost of living+housing is skyrocketing out of control breeding dissent.

Yeah, that's the main difference.

its not legal on paper, protests about workers rights and wages and stuff like that are totally fine. i think even some minorities in inner mongolia protested about too much urban development and they didnt get detained and organs harvested. just dont talk about separatism or killing xi or something

>hong kong
kek, hong kong's living standards are worse than a fucking indian slum if you aren't rich. imagine your whole apartment being literally just one bed.
OH NO NO NO NO

I lived in China from 2014 to 2017, back then China allowed Skype, Whatsapp and many other things they eventually blocked, some of those right after I left. Therefore I'm not quite sure how things are these days, the party's grip on society's freedoms seem tighter since then.

Aside from that China surprised me greatly. It's a very good country to live in. The need to use VPN all the time drags it down greatly though, it gets old real quick.

Jow Forums actually isn't blocked but because the capcha runs through google you can't post
there's likely a Zhang out there browsing /b/ and developing a really flawed view of what western net culture is really like

They have a bunch of streaming services, message boards and social networks. In fact all the sites you listed are American, what is weird isn’t that China doesn’t use them, but that the rest of the world is completely cucked by American internet giants while China has companies like Tencent, alibaba, baidu and netease majorly contributing to their economy.

There are at least two mainlanders that bought passes. One went to college here.

i knew a girl in beijing uni who would browse /mu/ and had a very meme personality
whenever you post, now you can imagine qt sino girls reading your message and wishing they were in HK so they could reply and call you a retard
