I am not saying it is the best system for economic nor social advancement nor has it ever been, because societies where there is no distinction between citizens (state of law in the west and uni-ethnicity states) have naturally an edge to better organize themselves and minimize frictions, basic institutional economic theory. So our society is easily hackable into and it is very easy to sow the seeds of social discord in it as it is inherently organized around clans and frictions are there by nature. But anyhow, Lebanon represents an attempt to create a third way from state of law societies and uni-ethnicity societies, and I believe with the advent of technology disrupting the ways societies function, by imposing rules equal to all by nature, Lebanon has done good in keeping in its constitution its natural order and multi-ethnicity character. We can talk and talk but anyhow my personal preference is for a multi-ethnic pan-levant confederal state with jerusalem/qods as capital.
