It's the same here and I feel like that's just the way it is. My parents didn't make me part of a community so why would I do it for them?

It's just not realistic for a lot of people these days. It used to be that women stayed at home and didn't work, so they could take care of their parents when they got old, or after they retired. But people started having kids older, which is only getting worse, and woman have joined the workforce. So it's difficult for a working family who have kids and strained finances as it is, to take care of their parents who usually need 24/7 supervision.

Imagine graduating from high school on a Friday. The following Monday the few things you own are outside by the sidewalk. You can be damn well sure I'm going to send them to a home.

My future children are all getting the down payment for a house in the same village as me. If they refuse to live there I will disown them.

I volunteered in a few different ones over the years, the black/white split was pretty even. I saw not a single asian though, and only a couple latinos.

Dude try taking care of another person experiencing conditions you aren't trained to care for AND raise a family. Not everyone has elderly parents who are cognitively healthy and physically well.

and trust me there's a lot of families who do visit their parents in homes if they live in the same town. On top of that there's various type of homes: resident homes which are for the independent elderly and long term care for those not in well condition as well as those specialized in caring for those with conditions. Hell many older folk can't live in their old home because of reasons but still want to be independent so they go to retirement homes.

It's sad how often people can't afford to have an actual home and not just a house. Like a place where you live 70+ percent of your life and where you die/haunt/resurrect
