Learn Spanish, they said. It has 480 million of native speakers, they said. You will always get corrections, they said.

overly innocent images like this cause a lump in my throat, even since childhood I remember being put off by really sweet/childish looking images or tv shows or songs or anything because they made me really sad. I think one december when I was 11 I listened and sang along to christmas songs every night to fall asleep, and actually by 11 I had already started jerking off but I didn't that entire month because I was immersing myself in bubbly innocence on purpose. and then inevitably I cried when christmas was over.
disney related things were always the worst offenders, somehow always hit me in a vulnerable spot.

I learnt a bit from Mick Dundee mate.

>because they made me really sad
I don't know why but they also make me sad for the most part

what's wrong with that? there are always people genuinely want to help you improve your spanish

Why is it so difficult to find good Swedish songs? At least 95% of the Swedish artists on last.fm use English lyrics, and the other 5% is trash. So far the only decent ones are Garmarna.

Torn on learning Japanese or French. One I enjoy the culture and everything else and the other I feel could be useful to me. I just dunno which one to choose.

Caramelldansen.

never learn a language just because it might be useful. learn what you really want even if it's not going to be super useful in life

>in meiner Freizeit

True, but just don’t know :(

Seconding this You will be more motivated to keep up with the learning since you are interested in it, so take japanese

I assume you don't live in somewhere big like moscow? I know r*eddit is a meme but you can sometimes post on r/spanish or r/learnspanish, some natives usually come around and want to talk to people

yeah, +1 for prioritizing the one that interests you more. there are so many things in life that I've dropped after half-assing for a while.

I have, on different occasions and for wildly differing periods of time, tried to learn German, Norwegian, Hungarian, Japanese, Korean and Mandarin. My main problem has just been sticking with it, as I have no one to practice with and I'm not in a financial position to afford lessons or a tutor.

For someone who can't immerse themselves in the language, what are some tips to keep motivation up? Am I just not disciplined enough for this?

>inb4 read the FAQ

Do you have any interest in music, hentai doujins (for the 3 asian languages), films, dramas,...?
For me being able to understand mentioned above is more than enough as motivation, and being able to talk to people is a bonus

what? Jow Forums has an hilo latino pretty much every time I check the catalog. you can also try hispachan

seething arab jelous of my language

1) hilo latino is the most retarded thread on Jow Forums and they barely help even that Canadian user who often hangs out there
2) Russia is range banned from Hispachan

It seems like almost all internet language learners struggle with this. It seems like having a close long-term connection to someone who speaks the language fluently would be the best way of maintaining motivation to learn it. Preferably someone you see regularly, like a classmate or close friend, so you actually get to practice it with them face-to-face.

I find that I hate not knowing what other people are saying, so increasing my exposure to a language generally also boosts my motivation to learn it. (So, for example, the more anime I watch, the harder I find it to not study Japanese.)

>hentai doujins (for the 3 asian languages)
my god, just doujins would have sufficed...

Well, I'm trying to get a job as a travel agent, so learning Mandarin or Japanese would be the most useful for me as an Australian, and would make me a) more employable in general and b) more likely to negotiate travelling to said countries on paid exploration trips for the benefit of the company. I have barely listened to any music for either of them, but I have watched a good amount of Japanese films and anime.

I tried learning Korean because I had an interest in Korean cinema for a good many years, and also because I feel that once the Koreas unify (and I believe they will within 30 years), Korea will become like a new Japan. Also, Hangul is my favourite writing system aesthetically. Not so much with the music.

Norwegian was to impress a frienemy/fuckbuddy, Hungarian for family, and I listen to a lot of Rammstein for German, and have watched many German films.

So what you're saying is, further immersing myself in media might be the best way to go. Sure, alright. Got any suggestions for any of the languages above?

no

okay yeah, it seems pretty retarded. but they won't even correct some stuff for you? that's cold.
lol. what did the Russians do to get banned from hispachan?

I had something like that for Norwegian, she was a linguist and fuckbuddy/frienemy, so I wanted to learn her mother tongue or ANY language to impress her after hearing her speak it at home. Practice was way easier then. Not so much now.

I guess I'm similar in that regard, except instead of hate, it's curiosity. I want to know what everyone is saying around me all the time. And yet, it isn't enough at this point, because I'm not constantly exposed to a single language. I guess I should try harder.

I don’t know, probably Zeta just doesn’t want some countries to post on his imageboard.
I hope one day he’ll add Jow Forums there, Hispachan is pretty cool desu.

Maybe 'hate' wasn't a great choice of words; it's curiosity for me too, but I think what really motivates me is the frustration that results from my curiosity being thwarted by lack of knowledge. I guess look for potential friends among groups of people who speak the language you want to focus on?

I haven't actually spent much time there. Doing so would probably be great for my Spanish, especially for learning things that I won't really find in textbooks.

Bump

how do you say "i love you all" in target lang?
los amo a todos

Je vous aime tous

>Why is it so difficult to find good Swedish songs?
Wdym? A big portion of my music library is Swedish music, and I despise normie music.

Whats the most unnatural-looking popular language?

Book a flight to that country.

If it's just for a short holiday I think most people won't much more out of it than just some quick nonsense like:
Hello can I get an uh... caffe latte mersi bukup

>mersi bukup
Kek

Why do people act like Esperanto is intended to replace natural languages? In 1905 it was declared that it's not meant to replace anything.

Τι χρησιμοποιείς για πολυτονιkό?

and im sure many people even like the idea of it because it has a pretty obvious use, but it has like 0 swag and the entire esperanto community is high functioning autists on youtube, theres 0 interesting things to do with it since all of its speakers are just boring students who introduced the idea of learning it to their uni reading circle. not that you COULD create good esperant content, the language has 0 swag, it sounds like crackhead spanish with grammar from all over

We could make Esperanto the official language of alt-right.

thatd be pretty funny. also ironic because i think the inventor was just some polish jew.

Sup lads

Yeah he was. L. L. Zamenhof. His whole motivation for making the language was facilitating equitable communication between nations that were separated by language.

tower of babel niggas be like

We could also enrich it with hateful neologisms and flex on (((people))) who prefer natural languages to conlangs.

Besides the aforementioned Garmarna, I like The Knife, Folque, Röyksopp, Vàli, Ane Brun and Scandinavian Music Group.

They sure seem to have many talented musicians, it's just a shame that most of them use English instead of their native language.

Which one? Being relatively easy to understand for Indo-European speakers but gibberish (and significantly more difficult to learn than any real language) to anyone else? English already does that, with much simpler grammar and the most learning resources of all. The only problem is that it's inextricably linked to the current US world hegemony, but because it's such a simple language I presume it'll continue to function as the international lingua franca even after Asia takes over.

english grammar is too irregular and inaccessible for most people, most people dont give a shit about learning all the exceptions, and they dont have to with esperanto because its made for that, there are 0 exceptions. everything is nicely regular, making it very simple to learn.
and honestly, im not very sure if its really to be attributed to simplicity or ease of learning that english is still a lingua franca, im pretty sure its really just due to US and anglo imperialism, mostly anglos. it couldve been literally any other colony language, just think about spanish for a second, they colonised all of southern latin america alongside the portuguese. spain also did a lot of colonising in asia, the philippines come to mind, they influenced local languages a lot, including tagalog. it couldve been spanish just as likely, but the british empire happened to conquer more. that may or may not be the only reason, its fairly unnuanced grammar only plays a minor role imo. not sure how much truth there is to this.

This is why you learn Scots. Much less regular than English.
