Why boomers do this. Interesting question, user. Boomers, this special generation born right after the deadliest global conflict in history have evolved in a particular mindset, very specific, never seen before. Societal improvement. Easy jobs. Science, technology and progress. These people bathed in the most prosperous environment repertored by history. The only thing they strived for was their own asset, their very person, because their parents told them how tribalistic behavior can lead to a lot of deaths and misery. This is peak materialism. These are the boomers. Pure bred human beings, winners of the history, fainting a grip on the Pisa tower. They're the center of the world, again, and they will show the photos to their children, their pansexual-non binar children working on a fentanyl/lithium diet. These are the boomers. Why do they do this ? Becaude that's their purpose. Their the center of gravity of their own world. These people are gods, TV, Radio, magd, ads : they've all taught them how they are special. That's why.

Seems kind of the same, better economy though and not as a oligarchic.

Our economy was quite literally zero in the 90s. Think of how fucking poor Bulgarians are right now, well they're like 5x as rich now as they were in the 90s.

Better. Salaries for the middle class was the same. Plus we had gabbers. And of course amazing video games. And lots of free time. Less EU.

We also still had public health care.

It is a lot better now, our gdp now is like 10 times what it used to in 1990.

It was tricky to unite Germany into one, so for East Germans it was a decade of hope and liberation, but overall they did worse than today. West Germany did better than today regarding freedom and happiness.

Some stuff was worse, a lot was better in the 90s. Nineties were a decade of hope after the cold war had ended, everything seemed possible world peace, sustainable economy, social security... it ended brutally with the Saudi attacks on WTC 2001,afterwards things went quite quickly downhill.
