How do people afford to live in this city?
NYC COL with half the salaries. It's madness.

londoners get paid twice as much for the same jobs the trade off is that only oil sheiks and russian oligarchs can afford to buy property a one bedroom flat is the same price as 4 breddom house in somewhere like north wales or middlesbrough

Not quite true.
Theyre paid 4 grand more but get promoted more easily

Most families that live in the city are unironically poor, most well off families live just outside the city and commute in the city for work. So really the only people who live here are poor people on some sort of bennies, young 20 somethings that flatshare and rich cunts

they don't, they either pay half their salary to share a tiny flat in zone 27(known as stab alley) with 7 other people, or to live a 3 hour commute outside london but have your own place

the centre is a playground for elite brits, and billionaire chinks/ruskies/arabs and their offspring

>young 20 somethings
I'm in that group in NYC and can barely afford my 1 BR atm. If I took the same job in London, I'd be flat sharing till my late 30s.

>I'd be flat sharing till my late 30s.
Which is what happens. My friends are young professionals from Biomedical, Teaching to Accountancy and most of us still live at home.

Yeah I still don't understand the comps. made with NYC. In terms of nightlife, it's a bit better imho, but it's much less affordable considering some professions allow in my city allow white collar folks to live in their own apartment.

In london you flatshare till you and your gf can share together exclusively. You may also buy a flat together but if you want to start a family typically you leave london and commute in fron surrounding towns

If you're an incel shared or partial ownership is an option, so you can share your own flat or pay rent on your own flat.

It depends on how you want to live. You *can* live alone via part ownership or with a good job but it's certainly difficult and usually costly is what most people do. The outer suburbs (4/5/6) can be relatively affordable but the quality of areas vary greatly.

I'd argue Nightlife isn't so much better as different. I personally felt bars were open later and offered better services in NY when I went a few years back.

The suburbs are fine, if you're not one of those types who can't stand to see a non-white person here and there. I'm in zone 4, btw.

Zone 5. NW.

Sounds like the Netherlands everywhere. You either share or live in a 30m2 studio until you find a gf who can cover half the mortgage
Someone with a median salary can only loan about €170k which is like bare entry level houses

fuck off, you literal millionaire

I live in zone 2 with parents in Lewisham XD

what's the shittiest area in London? I'm guessing Southwark/Lambeth? What are the prices there?

heathrow

Hackney

Don’t remember the name of the part of London but I know it’s the south of London and prices start there around 1000£ a month but are more around 1200£ - 1500£.
You’re best of living in London when you have either an income of 50k a year or living together with another person

Brixton was a real shithole when I was a teenager (mid 2000s). I heard it's getting gentrified now.

The area around Shepherds Bush and Acton was notorious back when I was a teen too. I knew of loads of people who got robbed there back then right on the streets in daylight.

Council estates like Trellick Tower were rough too, if you weren't from the area and didn't know anyone who lived there.

They really tried to clean it up after they regenerated the shopping centre but it's still a bit grim after dark.
