As of this moment the Ethereum devs have decided that it is not worth bricking Ethereum ASICs during the upcoming Constantinople fork in October. On top of that they will reduce issuance to 2 ETH. The big miner community was open for a compromise: Reduce issuance to 2 ETH and at the same time change/tweak the mining algo to kick ASICs out. The devs didn't care.
That was the absolute death sentence for decentralization & value of Ethereum. As of the end of October the developer supported chain will be mined by a handful of companies like Bitmain, Innosilicon & big farms with close ties to them, while there will likely be a big resistance from smaller GPU miners, effectively splitting the chain, one with Chinese overlords in full control, the other without a development team. That's the dead of this absolute shitshow shitcoin.
Why do you think Monero is striving? Because they fucking understand that security of the network is the top priority above everything else. Security of the network meaning the hashpower is coming from as many places as possible. Security also meaning that you need the big community behind it to make big changes (i.e. reducing issuance from 3 ETH to 2 ETH is a big change decided by less than 15 people). With XMR you have data centers (using downtimes during the night to mine Monero), websites using coinhive instead of ads, malicious botnets, GPU farms, hobby miners and a handful of other different actors. With Ethereum you'll only have Chinese farms left who will excercise control. It will also hurt the price because they don't fucking care about Ethereum, they'll sell the shit the moment they mint it. Monero will introduce smart contracts in 2019 with a sidechain called Tari. This will absolutely and definitely BTFO ETH if they don't start acting in the interests of the communities behind them.
Converting all my ETH and ERC20 tokens to XMR after I type this out.
I agree they should brick ASICS. But they shouldn’t tell anybody they’re doing it. They should do it as a surprise... don’t give them any time to prepare...

>sidechain nothing on a sidechain will ever work. the barrier to entry is already insanely high with NPC's having to figure out how to use a private key, an address, a block explorer and that if they send to a wrong address they lose their funds immediately. i have been in crypto for 2 years now and setting up the software to interact with a sidechain (see; LN) is already hard for myself. for NPX'x itll be near impossible..
William Price
if youve been following the github discussion you would see there's already an algo that's ready and where ASICs have a max efficiency gain vs. GPUs of 1.2x, it's called ProgPOW Therefore it's not even necessary to keep it a secret. it will be way better than Ethereum, I'm sure.
Tari will be an independant blockchain which supports both fungible assets for payments and non-fungible assets such as trading cards. The link between Monero and Tari is that Tari will be merge-mined with Monero to make use of the existing network of miners that already exist for Monero. This will just provide the PoW for the base layer of Tari but the blockchain itself will be completely separate from Monero, including using a different protocol that will be designed to support NFTs.

LN isn't a sidechain

Have you literally never heard about ZCash? The upcoming fork will render Monero worthless. That's why XMR has dropped so much lately. Even some people on r/cryptocurrency are starting to be aware of what is happening.
Caleb Mitchell
Why would the upcoming fork render Monero worthless?
James Hernandez
ZEC has dropped much more in value than XMR, by the way. They still have 4x inflation while Monero only has 10% of supply left for miners.
Joshua Ward
I'm interested in both xmr and zcash, tell me more about your theory

POW is dead, obsolete tech, move on

And KMD will make ZEC obsolete thanks to jumblr
Its all about dPoW now

nobody really cares about muh asic resistance except for gpu miners.

what are you a fucking faggot OP? just kidding #gays4life lol xDD +1 ahve a upvote and a golden coin YAYYYAY YAYYAY AOSYSOOSYSYOYSOYSossyYsoysoyOnions!!! Gavin Williams
there was never any reason to be in eth if you like pow except for speculation purposes. pos was planned since the whitepaper
Mason Scott
I don't know much about crypto, but the idea of less than a handful of groups having the vast majority of power seems worrisome.
Brayden Rodriguez
bitcoin isn't asic resistant and there are no problems due to that
Carson Hughes
no problems "yet". Doesn't bitmain already own more than 40% of the network hashing power?
Jayden Young
no they own much less, in fact they are rapidly losing market dominance because other companies started to make better asics (including samsung itself). Literally zero fears about asics have materialized
Dominic Morales
I agree that the security fear about ASICs is a meme. But it's ok for BTC because most of it is already mined. With ETH they haven't even decided if and what will be the max amount. And if you start ASIC mining early, the distribution of the coin/number of people incentivized to develop the ecosystem will be shit.
Justin Cook
ETH cuts its inflation by 33% in november, it looks like PoS happens in 2020 and then eth supply gets limited. A realistic number used by vitalik is 134M eth

>The big miner community The GPU miner community can eat a fucking dick. Bunch of spineless soiboys who will be shaken out like the thankless rats you are.
