Much of Finnish population suffered from PTSD after WW2. The whole national policy has been based for decades on not annoying Russia, the biggest threat. The language is not Indo-European. The people live very close to each other, when put into perspect regarding latitude.

But we're still doing relatively well, and are part of Europe. Finland is one of the most unique countries in the world, and not only in a positive sense. That is bound to seem peculiar and create some weird tendencies.
