it could be worse

deep & nasally, akin to Larry Fine

anybawdy want some cawfee

People seem confused as to where I'm from or what accent I have when I speak, but I'm pretty sure it's not from any accent in particular. My dad has one of those strong Cape Breton accents, but I don't think it passed on to me very much.

It's quite sleazy-sounding imo.

Not much worse

Natives like it, i dont

This, I barely speak it when I see lost tourists so I don't get to practice it that much, and even in those occasions it's just giving directions and recommending places

Vocaroo you stupid non native English speakers.

No

Foreigners like it, I don't

In a short conversation it sounds decent, but if it prolongs for more than a minute there's always some word or expression that will give away it's not my native language. Barely use it outside of uni so I'm fine with not sounding 100% gringo.

I don't even try to sound like a tea drinker. I think that adds to the charm.

Last time I posted a vocaroo of myself I was told it sounds like a bastard mix of British and Irish accents.

Rural Queensland with some South African/weird posh hybrid ticks
But i also talk quickly and have big lips and can't anounciate well
No cunt can understand anything i say

I’m midwestern white trash. It’s not TERRIBLE, I can sound normal if I try, but I feel like a fag when I enunciate “properly”.

And you were also told it sounds cool

i have a southern accent so that depends entirely upon who you ask

europeans seem to think it's cool for some reason

no

Foreigners think I sound Australian

Attached: 1542668329337.jpg (1172x1646, 344K)

that's a compliment

I have only spoke to three Anglophones in my life and they did not seem to have trouble understanding me

Record this text with vocaroo please :
America is a nice place and we live in a society. Yes, America is a nice place and... SHAAAARRRRRT ehhehhehe ALL GOOD. That was GOOD. yeeeeehhaaaa oolllywhoooooo. Dixie man.

Listen to some essex accents and tell me again you agree with that

Where are you from?
I saw a video or an English chick somewhere in the south i think west of London whos accent sounded Australian without the twang

South essex, we speak 'estuary English', it's a mix of east london and a kind of farmer accent so I can see where they're coming from, it's a bit 'wobbly' sounding

Oh, ive always thought of estuary as jamie oliver

>nothern californian accent
>nasally
>mumble a lot

don't bully me

Attached: 1547512876718.jpg (720x960, 74K)

He is from round here but he has a weird voice, think he has a massive tongue, speaks like hes got in his mouth

I’m Scottish and, therefore, speak the most purest form of English there is.

I have received compliments from my English/Irish/Aussie friends, so yeah I'd say so. But I have shifted from emulating a General American accent to a generic British one so it sounds kinda weird sometimes.

I don't bully you I expected a vocaroo link tho

I have also done this. A lot of people learn American and then they ascend to British, because they know it sounds better

non brits that fake british accent are tryhard posers, it always sounds very artificial

Eh, I actually didn't do it on purpose at first, it came naturally as I was studying for the CPE. Also there are some words that are just easier to pronounce in British English (see: scholarly, particularly). I also had more English friends than American ones.

But yeah it sounds better, at least RP does.

me too desu

You from NJ?

fug, I wanted to practice one to attract girls because they go crazy over it out here

Surely it must be weird emulating another accent? It must be difficult, I think if I spoke with what I considered a french accent in France they'd think I was taking the piss

RP is artificial per definition.

I can do a pretty convincing american accent.

No i sound like the stereotyped canadian accent. Funny more americans sound like that than canadians

yes, RP bastardized by american tele.

minnesota/wisconsin?

Just did, don't understand how someone could think it sounds Australian.

>is your Engrish accert rice

By definition

It sounds ridiculous at first because when you first try to imitate it you tend to exaggerate, but you tone it down once you get used to it.

Kinda true. But in my case, a fake brit accent makes me sound less slavic. Of course, my pronunciation is still sort of general eastern european, but at least isn't a disgusting full Nico Bellic mode.

>grow up in mass around people with "PAHK THE CAH INNA YAHD" level thick accents
>i don't sound that much like them, so i figure i have a pretty normal voice
>go to georgia for brother's wedding
>local hicks tease me nonstop about my accent
Fuck you dixie, you sound silly, not me

>Nico Bellic mode
what about Roman mode?

Well, i speak english like Borat
Woa woa woa, vegy nice.

t. city slicker

That sounds pretty funny but don't let dixies get you down they sound like they have downs syndrome

yes, you have to force it on each word because that's not how you naturally speak
It also make people speak slower and more controlled than what they would, which makes it look more robotic

Learning a language is not only about the letters, it's also about how the letters sound. If I were to speak with a Slavic accent I would feel like I haven't really learnt the language properly

Because that's how cow boys talk, its cool

You sound like a Bostonian desu

This.

ye... milwaukee

He easily could be, it's a very northeastern sound. I say it similarly, and even though I mostly associate it with NY, it's kinda pronounced similarly from New England down to about Philly

at least you have bowling, beer, and cheese

Shut the fuck up Ivan

>yes, you have to force it on each word because that's not how you naturally speak
>It also make people speak slower and more controlled than what they would, which makes it look more robotic
You have to go through this in order to sound native. It takes time, but one can eventually get to it.

I've personally met educated immigrants that legit sounded like native Italians, I don't see why it would be any different with British English.

didnt know what to say so just read this comment
vocaroo.com/i/s0hg14vfCS0r

regional accents are barely a thing anymore, but that's one thing that stuck around.

Very grim that your accents are going, I went to boston looking forward to hear that lovely sing song voice but pretty much only bus drivers actually spoke like that, quite sad in its own way

accents overall are a bit more homogeneous but saying regional accents arent a thing is brainlet tier

It's the best accent in the world and don't you forget it

I meet (white) people from the urban South all the time, and they don't even have discernible Southern accents.

Black people have their own regional accents which they are keeping alive to a much greater extent.

and i meet people all the time with discernible accents your weird racial anecdotes dont mean shit

because you're a boomer and all your friends are over 50

youtu.be/rLwbzGyC6t4

My accent is just the default south of England accent desu

>urban South
There's your problem. It's not the people in cities that tend to have accents anymore. It's mostly in the suburbs and rural areas.

That British guy who said he was disappointed that nobody in Boston had an accent? Yeah, it's because the strong accents are either in the shitty parts nobody wants to go to (Southie), or the people with them moved to the suburbs. You gotta go to Quincy or something to hear a real Boston accent now. The same is the case in NY, where most of the strong accents are in suburbs in Jersey and Long Island, and I'm assuming it goes for the rest of the country too.

I live on Long Island, only uneducated white boomers like the Bagelcel have that accent. Young people just sound "broadly Northeastern".

nice

Feel free to guess where I'm from!

Russia?

Does the average Swede have this strong of an accent when they speak English? I sure hope so or else I'll be disappointed when I go there.

nope!

I should have specified "which part of the US". I was born here.

Gay lol

Sounds kinda Slavic. I'd say somewhere in NY, Brooklyn possibly?

oh wow you were being serious about the Russia?

VERY close guess, though. Same geographic landmass

Depends quite a lot, worst case scenario you'll encounter some tryhard who'll try to sound British

*regardling Brooklyn, not Russia

Pewdiepie’s accent is pretty decent desu

Yäs it is väry najs.

IDK, other parts of NY? Utica? Albany?

Yeah sure, I've heard some people like the Swedish accent. Swedes themselves are not so fond of it though

rate mine vocaroo.com/i/s0GWc8OddNZc

no, Long Island

Russia?

I don't remember the last time I spoke English irl, other than 'yes' and 'thank you'.

do I really sound Russian?

Sounds like Microsoft Sam

Fucking hell mate. They’re just trolling you. Idk to me you sound like an average American. Nothing peculiar about your accent.

not at all
