But we (the Netherlands) stands on the shoulders of giants. You can see how egyptians started a civilation, that the greeks developped it further, then the romans added something it. Then everything stagnated for a while due to turmoil. Then Italians and Spaniards and Portugese started advancing civilization again. Then Dutch people rejected the status quo and advanced society. Which quickly led to France doing the same. And then the UK. And then Europe came crashing down again and the USA took over the torch. And who knows who will be next.

Hm, individualism on the other hand kills European culture. Collective always dominates over the individual. Europeans manged to keep their identity by re-creating in law what was naturally predeveloped as the way of cooperation based on the tribe's interests. Roman ius is just a continuation of the ancient civita's traditions. The word Civilization itself has the same root.
So, generally, individualism can't exist without law which was built up on the primitive tribe's collectivism.

On top of that, travelling through Europe per ship is easy because there's an enormous amount of coastline. Europe has a lot of forests and arable land. Generally, the climate is not too harsh, so instead of struggling with survival, people could invest their time in technological progress.

All this layed the foundation to the white man's conquest of the world. A head start that is incredibly hard to catch up.

China had some of these advatages as well and was ahead of Europe for quite some time, but retarded isolationanist policy gave them a huge drawback.

The thing is that Europe has a lot of easy to settle land, but is far smaller than other continents. This drastically increased the speed of modern state building, which consists of long periods of constant wars where leading figures such as kings waged war with other kings for their precious land and defended theirs, to do that they needed the to centralize power within their position and to have the people pay taxes and fight in their armies, and to keep the people in their armies and paying taxes, they needed to give them something in return, such as protection and rights. This cycle of centralizing power and gaining prosperity to wage war and waging war to centralize power and gain prosperity repeated again and again until modern states formed, and these periods required technological progress and the states themselves provided a great basis for this technological progress. This is why civilization progressed so quickly in europe when compared to other countries. It needed to.
On the other hand, countries like africa, the americas or much of asia never had these land and resource shortages, at least not in the way that europe had them, therefor concepts like cycles of constant war, resource wars, state building etc. never really happened, or not as quickly as in europe.

Africa is better for a hunter gatherer lifestyle than Europe, but much much much worse for settled life. Which is why humans evolved in East Africa, but settled in Mesopotamia.
