Dutch want nothing to do with the Afrikaners because they view them as toxic and racist and fear that that the Afrikaners would upset the political landscape in Holland by joining far-right parties in the Netherlands,just like they did in Australia when tens of thousands of them arrived immigrated there after 1994.

the Boers aren't exclusively dutch in terms of ancestry. many have german and french surnames - and many have remote khoisan or indonesian ancestry.
Culturally they aren't very similar - in the same way that americans and britons aren't really that similar. The language is clearly related, but the mannerisms, the outlook on life and general sense of humour is very different.
