There is some truth to that. It's hard because in the past century, or so, there have massive Societal changes, and it's happening at an accelerating rate.

For the vast majority of Human history, across most cultures, women were treated as commodities for trade.

Marriages were used for the formation of battle alliances, and the acquisition of property and titles. We still have this today, to some extent, where the woman's family is expected to pay the most for the wedding, or provide some gift, as the man's family are "unburdening" the woman's family.

I don't know if this is a "problem" to be "solved", or if it can even be solved? But I guess I'm more egalitarian in thinking no one should be forced into getting into something they don't want to.
