This, I live in Japan and about 2-3 hours of that overwork (in an office anyway) is people waiting for their boss to leave so they don't get accused of being lazy.

if thats just physical work you leave behind when you go home thats quite ok, much worse if you think about it while home. 80 hour weeks are common in my trade but we take a long weekend, maybe even a week off between projects, and it doesnt follow us home. we are allowed to turn off the phone if we want to.
