If it's your dream and stick to high spots like Louvres, Eiffel tower, Montmartre and Champs-Elysées it will be ok I guess, make your own idea on the place. I'd recommend the countryside though, Bordeaux, Brittany, Ardèche and so on.

A city is never great. Impressive, maybe interesting architecture, but great things are in villages, there you will find your typical french. Parisians aren't french. And it's the same for every big western city, you won't find locals in the cities, only cosmopolitan urban dwellers eager to take your money away or too busy to notice your existence.

Sure, other places are great too, but Paris is Paris. It's iconic. Great food and great art and architecture.

Honestly, the idea of visiting and going to some huge metro area doesn't appeal to me. If I wanted to visit a country I would go to the countryside, I would go to the lesser known areas. Going to London for example and being surrounded my Pakis and other immigrants just worried about their job and money seems so stupid.
I'm sure Rome is amazing, but I also want to go to lesser explored parts of Italy too

I guess Paris is very beautiful on an architectural level but lacking the day-to-day-life charm of more gritty places like Berlin. Also expensive and touristy as fuck.

Normandy without a doubt. It still got that medieval feeling which I like. When it comes to the whitest parts of France I would suggest anything but Ile-de-France, the south (especially Marseille) and Strasbourg with his surroundings

Every places in metropolitan France are treasures of history, there are gites everywhere and cheap ones for a great standing and typical culture/dishes/people. Like, everywhere. Ok except some areas in the north.
Clermont, Vichy, Arles, Keysersberg etc...

go litterally everywhere but those places, they're tourist trap and attract street vendors and pickpocket, in addition to being way overrated. Make your own way through the actual Paris parisians live in. Stay around the historic center if you're afraid to get lost. It's a small town anyway, you won't get lost for long.
