We elected Bolsonaro because he was the least bad option too. It was him or someone who represented the party that has been governing Brazil for over 2 decades (and was accused of many shady things in the past which of course he denies, while Bolsonaro was never involved in a political scandal since the beginning of his career). But in the end it doesn't really matter who we elect. This country is doomed to failure either by our own incompetence be it for genetic factors (nutrition, genes, etc.) or political ones (there are countries out there that genuinely want to keep Brazil in its doomed state for easier profitting).
The second option is very likely. Just looking at the Amazon situation is a clear indication of that. And that's just scratching the surface. We're one of the world's main drug trade routes, all drugs made in Peru and Colombia have to pass through here to go to the US/Europe which are the biggest buyers, the politicians don't view their countrymen as their people, I wager that there's a racial reason for that and Brazil wasn't a mutt nation they wouldn't have 0 nationalism.
We can't afford having a small, homogeneous, racial/regional conflict-free population like Holland. A country with such a fragmented history such as Brazil can only do so much.
I think in order to understand Brazil better you have to study its neighbors, Chile and Argentina, and see where did they suceeded where Brazil failed.
It's a little bit complex other than "they're mutts xD lol" being the reason we failed.
