Is university in Europe of a higher quality than the USA? How do they differ?
Is university in Europe of a higher quality than the USA? How do they differ?
I can't speak for all of Europe, but I've heard that many American universities force you to stay in university accommodation, in which you share a living space with someone and showers with multiple people
In the UK this is utterly bizarre. You can live wherever you want and with student accommodation, you get your own room and showers
quality for what? education-wise US universities are at the top along with cambridge and oxford
the quality of education in US universities is the best in the world bar a few UK universities
>Is university in Europe of a higher quality than the USA? How do they differ?
It's all the same shit
no forced feminism and diversity classes that's for sure
The top ones in USA are good but the average one are kinda bad
While in Europe the top ones cant compate with USA but the average ones are miles ahead
My cousin says he has to do a "diversity course" and a "sexual assault course" before he can enter uni kek (Californian)
What I don't get is I spoke to some slavs and they told me they spend 5 days a week doing classes all day at university level - yet for me I just did 2 days a week. their uni is like an extended high school - yet they all seem still thick as pig shit
what are they studying? because preparatory classes here are 5 days a week 8 to 17 but they aren't mandatory, if you want to you can skip them
Don't American unis you do lots of subjects but major in a specific subject.
In UK we only do one subject in detail.
What? No you don't. With most accommodation here, you share bathrooms.
For the first year, you attend general education classes and a few are for you to choose such as philosophy, history, art etc.. but others such as english 101, prerequisite mathematics classes, and public speaking are required for most degrees. The 3 years after are almost entirely the subject and subjects closely related to it. I do not like this system. It feels like a waste of time. You can pass out of them though. Apparently in Europe, medical school is your undergraduate program. You have to go to graduate school to become a doctor here after an unrelated undergraduate degree and it is extremely expensive.
Of the accommodation I've stayed in and the mates I've visited, I've never seen that 2bh
has anyone actually studied the same subjct at both a european university and an american one?
my uni "requires" people to stay in dorms only during their first year but there are plenty of ways out of it
for my undergrad my parents just bought me a house to stay in and rented out rooms to my friends for cheap just to cover the mortage and then sold it after I graduated for a bit more than they paid for it
Probably because instead of learning anything, their time is spent cramming everything.
Top tier universities are pretty much all American, barring a few British ones, but once you get to mid-tier research universities it's all the same shit. From a bachelors or masters student perspective (not research or phd) most top universities are only high tier because the best people apply there.
Your education system is fantastic.
why couldnt i have been born in europe where i could have just coasted into a free uni with mediocre grades and shiet. being forced to keep a 4.0 is pure aids
As someone who has transferred to abroad unis, it's mostly the same with the exception of early undergrad classes. In the US you have to take shitty prerequisite courses that are unrelated to your major to make you a more "rounded" person. That kind of shit is usually ignored abroad.
>my parents just bought me a house to stay in
Goddamn rich fags
What parents can just buy their kid a house willy nilly?
Well french univ is basically free so I could stop here. Quality wise I guess like said. Because anybody can afford our university the level kinda dropped in some majors for some university but it's still ok post bachelor. Also it really depends of what major and university.
Most elite don't do university they do class prepa (2 years of stressful hell study) and then the entrance exams for the grandes ecoles which are prestigious schools. But you can totally do something very prestigious with only university if it's a good.university for the domain you are studying.
I hate that in french univ I don't get to pick my lectures but only my major. I hate that it's so goddamn long.
Going to univ and having mediocre grades in a random major is receipt for a worthless degree and unemployment at least here in France.
Parents who have good credit and know how to use it. Like he said, they used the rented rooms to pay the mortgage. So there yah go. It's free real estate.
my family isnt even really rich. my parents combined income is like $120k a year. They actually refinanced their house when me and my sister started college and used the money to pay off other debts and had like 60k sitting around and the down payment on the house was like 20k or something and they basically had no mortage because it was paid for by my friends rent payments
i have a little insight on american unis from my american friend, there are some differences but there's one thing that UK and US have in common - extremely fucking expensive studies. in other European countries you have it for free, only private universities have certain fees to pay.
ours(nordic) universities score low because they have to specialize, but they are some of the best schools in their fields
