zappa is amazing when his mind is set on making music, less so when he tries his hand at being a comic through commentary, political (especially when he has a musician's understanding of politics) or social. i also dislike his excessive use of overdubs over live performances, it's dishonest. one of the greats for sure in spite of his posturing and exaggerated wackiness though
