Most people like to hate on "chilango" accent. Which really means low class people from Mexico City. Yucateco accent sounds funny to most of us, and I like the Northwest accent. Posh (fresa) accent sounds the same everywhere.

We basically divide them in three general accents: Northern, Central and Southern.

Northern would be described as anglos would describe Texan accent, it gives a funny tone at the end of sentences/words, Monterrey is the usual example.
Central is usually represented by Mexico City, which is hated, but even within Mexico City there are a few accents according to social class.
Southern is funny and fast paced, Yucatan is the usual example.

A little bit. But I work with foreigners, so I have to talk to them in English all the time (even if my grammar is shit), so my accent has improved over time by the sheer amount of practice I do on a daily basis.

AFIK the state of Guanajuato has become EXTREMELY dangerous the last couple of years, and while most of the violence I've seen are in towns/cities like Salvatierra, Irapuato etc. I think León has been hit as well. The city of Guanajuato itself is safe, however, but it is also very small, the same for San Miguel de Allende, another safe heaven. Aguascalientes has been spared of the recent violence, and it's among the safest states.
