Took a bus, then a motorbike. Bastar does have a significant Maoist presence, but local tribes and the CRPF have been pushing them out of certain quarters. The Kanger Ghati dalam isn't nearly as large as it once was, though areas like Koleng still see a lot more activity than the government's willing to admit. Shit gets significantly dicier closer to the Chahttisgarh-Odisha and Chhattisgarh-Andhra borders.

Bastar's still got plenty of troubles, but the Naxal presence is very regionally concentrated. They were visiting towns like Nangur and Qawwali a decade ago, but villagers rarely see them anymore.

However, there's still lots of indigenous support for Naxals further west--near Darbha, then Dantewada and across the Indavati in Abujmarh.

Did the Spiti Valley Loop last summer, in 2018. There really aren't that many people on motorbikes doing it. You do pass the occasional group, but I went hours in the mountains without seeing any other vehicles.

Leh-Ladakh is way more popular.

India's a beautiful place and most of the imagery in movies and media is biased, it's like shooting a movie in New York but omitting manhattan and only showing the worst parts of the Bronx and Harlem or better yet just showing rednecks fucking their sisters in the deep south. For example, Mumbai has a billion dollar home, the most expensive in the world and just about an hour away are caves with art from thousands of years ago. People in India also don't want to rape you, rape per capita is lower in India than in the U.S btw. The culture is beautiful, the people will love to just talk to you about where you're from and you can get what you want from your travels! Obviously not to say that it's perfect in any way but I promise it's better than what is shown in Western media
