>4th world economic superpower >the most populous country in Europe >rich history
>almost no significant impact on the current world culture >no one learns their language except for people who want to work there >their post-war cultural and scientifical output is almost completely unknown all over the world and if anything - it's unproportional to country's economical relevance
why is that? Why did Japan dominate the world culturally after WW2 but Germany failed at it?
I'd say that's pretty niche thing not really dominating >while few people learn german Lol wut?
Aiden Bennett
what a shitty thread by an underaged weaboo bydlo, a thread died for this fuck you zoomers
Juan Mitchell
forgot gaming industry - Nintendo and stuff
Germany has basically one series for nerds (Gothic) and that's all
William Reed
>except for people who want to work there That's quite a lot of people and I wouldn't say that Japan dominates the world culturally, that honour goes to the Anglosphere
German films were very popular before WW2, sadly they first alienated their Jewish directors (guy who made Metropolis etc.), and after that also "nazi" film makers such as Leni Riefenstahl who was a singularly talented woman (especially before she made propaganda for the midget) and never in the nazi party...left a cultural vacuum sadly
>almost no significant impact on the current world culture They have pretty neat gothic scene, also wave gotik treffen
Logan Hernandez
>except for people who want to work there Almost every high school teaches German while there must be just a handful offering Japanese. What the fuck you're talking about
Dylan James
>Lol wut?
You have tons of people learning Japanese just for fun in the USA, Brazil, Australia etc., while almost no one learns German there. Only Europeans who live close to Germany sometimes learn it, if they are going to work, live or travel there, but it's purely utilitarian, nothing you do for cultural reasons
>and I wouldn't say that Japan dominates the world culturally, that honour goes to the Anglosphere
but Japan is definitely in the top, while Germany is completely irrelevant culturally. Even France or Spain are much more important than Germany in terms of culture.
Christopher Myers
yeah, for all 3,5 people who listen to such music it must be really important but it's irrelevant for the majority
so your map only confirms the only people who learn German are poor eastern Europeans who are going to work there, while in western Europe German is completely irrelevant, even though Germany trumps all other countries economically
isn't it quite embarrasing for Germans that more Germans learn Spanish than Spaniards learn German? Spain is a poor shithole as compared to Germany.
Blake Brown
>USA dominates Americas economically - everyone learns English there
>Japan dominates East Asia economically - everyone learns Japanese there
>Russia dominates eastern Europe and central Asia economically - everyone learns Russian there
>Germany dominates western and central Europe economically - almost no one learns German there
Jaxson Lopez
Are you still claiming more people are learning japanese? Even globally? Most high schools offer german while japanese is a niche language. Like you said it's just weebs learning it Go out and have sex and watch less animes
>Most high schools offer german while japanese is a niche language
You're talking about Europe. It's different globally. In the US Japanese is almost as popular as German, even though most of Americans have German roots and German culture is much, much closer to the American culture than Japanese culture is
And in Asia, that 'weighs' the most globally, Japanese is by far the most popular language.
Not to mention, even people who don't learn Japanese, consume much more of Japanese culture than German culture. It's just much more common on TV, on the internet etc.
Joshua Anderson
btw, your map only proves the only people who learn German are poor eastern Europeans again (Scandis and Dutchies dont even need to learn German to have a good command of it, the languages are similar).
On the other hand, German is completely irrelevant in western Europe, even though all these countries have very strong economic ties with Germany.
Ian Long
In my university, which is in a flyover state, there’s 8 courses every semester for Nipponess, but only one for German, and it’s only available one semester out of the year
For me Frenxh and German were obligatory in school.
Jordan White
I assume it's full of weebs. Why aren't they learning Spanish or something else they can actually use in America? You'd get weird looks if you took a Japanese course here.
Nathaniel Williams
>Why did Japan dominate the world culturally
???? Fuck you jap
Michael Martin
Are you serious?
I think you are fucking weaboo nerd
Blake Howard
Germany's cultural irrelevance is something really sad actually. Like Germany has a lot of stunnigly beautiful places, towns, villages etc., but let's imagine an average middle-aged American is planning his First Europe Trip, what countries will he visit? France, Italy, UK, Spain, maybe the Netherlands/Belgium or Austria. Germany is almost never the country of first choice, it's only the second or third trip across Europe when your American or Japanese tourist decides to see Germany and he's usually in awe - but why didn't he know that before he actually went there? Because Germany doesn't exist 'culturally' except for its narrow sphere of influence in Central and Eastern Europe. No one expects Germany to be beautiful, because the general image of Germany outside Europe is "yeah they make good cars but the country was bombed to the ground and there's nothing to see there I can't see in France" while in fact it's bullshit but Germans don't even seem to try to change this image.

We are a nation of bureaucrats with a great level of emphasis on conformity. It's really no wonder that our creative output isn't that high. Don't forget Anno and Simulators

Easton Campbell
>powerhouse economy >major contributor to science and technology You're a fucking retard Mehmet

Germany has incredibly tiny cultural output despite their population and economy. Germany doesn't make any music that hits the top of the charts or movies that do the same. There is no exported culture for foreigners to see themselves.
Jose Bell
>all these people ITT saying OP is dumb for saying japan dominated culturally >while posting on an imageboard derived from japanese imageboards
>It's really no wonder that our creative output isn't that high.
that can't be an explanation since Germany's creative output before WW1 was probably the greatest in the world
exactly - the question is - why?
James Cruz
does Rammstein count?
Lucas Gomez
>Anno
that's for nerds again
>Simulators
that's only for German nerds, no one outside Germany plays it for real and people laugh only Germans could have invented such a concept
Nicholas Edwards
i don't know why desu, Germans just don't have much entertainment needs i guess. the only German bands that come to mind are Rammstein and the Scorpions for me.
Brayden Cox
Japan has pretty potent soft power. Would probably rank next to USA, U.K and maybe France.
Joseph Barnes
Nintendo, Kaju movies, power rangers, pokemon, dragon ball Almost every person on the planet was influenced by japanese culture
Grayson Hernandez
The Netherlands has a much bigger cultural output than Germany desu. Italy and France as well.
They sent their brightest minds to get killed in major wars twice and expelled a group who usually contribute a lot towards art and science in white countries(Jews) to america.
Imperial germany should've just stayed put and avoided major conflicts.
Adam Bell
Just because a children's cartoon from Japan is popular doesn't mean Japan dominates the world culturally. Yeah, they have a powerful economt but they mostly stay silent. You don't hear much news from there. I only see Japan on the news when there's huge earthquake there.
Christian Taylor
Spanish isn't just spoken in Spain
Julian Roberts
>They sent their brightest minds to get killed in major wars twice and expelled a group who usually contribute a lot towards art and science in white countries(Jews) to america.
didn't Japan do the same, especially in WW2?
Ethan Jackson
There’s like 60 courses in Spanish, i was just comparing the cultural input from both, sure Japanese is taken by weebs, but i’d prefer a weeb over the person who is autistic enough to take German.
Camden Clark
One of the producers of Planescape Torment was also German, he made a very successful German RPG series before that based on a tabletop system (DSA)
Also Settlers, Patrician, lot of point & click adventures, Crysis (German Turks actually but still)
Grayson Baker
First they got rid of the Jews, who always have and had unproportional cultural output, then they willingly culturally castrated themselves over WW II guilt
Jeremiah Clark
all countries it is spoken in as a native/main language are poor shitholes
do you think an average German learns Spanish to talk to a Bolivian coca harvester?
it's all other countries that should learn German, not Germans that should learn languages of poor countries
look at Americans or Brits, they wouldn't bother to learn any other language, because they expect everyone to speak English. Same with French people - they wouldn't learn German, because it's a German tourist that should learn some French if he visits France.
Only Germans are different and learn all langauges of countries that are economically inferior to them and it's pretty common that a German waiter in Germany speaks to a French tourist in French. How embarrasing it must be, try to imagine a reversed situation in Paris.

Modern Talking was very popular. However, they sang in English. It may be problematic that the Germans themselves rely on English. In addition, techno including Kraftwerk was important. Detroit? Is American pizza a true pizza?
Jacob Martinez
The gaming industry is not niche anymore, everyone knows who Super Mario is, and almost every normalfag has played some sort of Japanese game even in their adulthood. Even turd world countries feel this cultural influence thanks to cheap arcades. Meanwhile even Poland has more soft power in this field than Germany.
Julian Wood
techno was founded in Detroit
Justin Long
I also always wondered that how Germany doesn't have popular games, movies, cartoons, music or anything being so rich. Same goes for China.
Japan literally invented most of tech stuff since the end of WW2 CDs, DVDs, Blurays, Walkma, gaming consoles etc.
Anthony Hughes
Anime is 28$ billion industry and it makes 60% of world total animation. Some of anime and manga franchises are most profitable media franchises off all time.
that's easily explainable - their country is still rather closed due to their political system so they produce a lot of stuff for their internal market but it's not supposed to be exported all over the world
if chinese people can't use fb or yt, they can't advertise their modern culture as easily
but it's not the case with Germany
Samuel Reyes
Why does a coutnry need to "export" its culture to begin with? Exporting pharmacy, cars and machines is enough. I rather you subhuman fucks never witness or learn about anything good or interesting that goes on here, you dont deserve anything good in your pathetic life.

The only german somewhat successful game franchise and studio were Crytek and Crysis.

As previously mentioned, lots of jews migrated or disappeared under less pleasant circumstances. They contributed a shitload. Just look at Weimar's film industry before the Nazis took over. Our romantic spirit was also somewhat broken after both world wars and we lost self-confidence and identity. E.g. Films here are either a cheap and cringy imitation of Hollywood or too "german" even for german audiences, meaning that they are dull, lifeless and a bit stiff. Few manage to step between both. What's left of culture is often toothless and boring. Something that exists but has no impact and isn't valued by german society.
Brody Cox
This, as I said, Germany loses a lot of tourists and money because it's not as recognizable as France or Italy are, even though German cities look better than French ones.
Charles Martinez
And even then japanese beat them, Toyota is larger than Volkswagen.
