The reason is, that the rate to produce BS is orders of magnitude faster than to refute BS.
It's okay to get the gist of something from experts in the field and draw an educated conclusion.
For example, I'm a physicist and I'm going to call BS on every proposal of a perpetuum mobile machine without reading the plan of the guy or disassembling the machine etc.
