Knowing french gives you an undisputable advantage in fancy english vocabulary. For instance, in vocabulary tests you sometimes see pop on the internet, french people score much higher than other nationalities, sometimes even natives, despite have very limited speaking skills compared to other countries.
I would argue though that this is true only if you already have a very good grasp of french vocabulary.
