France is a motherland but it's weird because we can call it (more like used to call it) "Mère patrie", "mère" meaning mother but "patrie" (synonyme of Nation) comes from the Latin "Pater" which gave many languages the word "father" (Vater, Père, Vader, etc.).
So basically we're calling France the Mother Father.

'foster' is a noun meaning fetus
'fostra' is a verb meaning raise (as in raising kids)
