Not sure how the "stand your ground" laws are in Texas (probably EXTREMELY relaxed) but if I recall correctly, you usually need to show a "retreat" before you're legally allowed to shoot someone in self defense, unless they're on your property. It's been a while since crim law so I could be wrong.
