Because Tedesco is older than Germania in Italian languages
We call you Tedeschi in the Vulgar Latin dialects spoken inside the HRE and so it stuck
Germania is an new country relatively speaking so we used the Latin (and more prestigious Germania name) instead of the Vulgar Latin one

This can be seen by the Guelfi VS Ghibellini period in Italy in which you either was with the Impero or with the Papa desu
