In Norway it is common to have "first name" "middle name" "mothers last name" and "fathers last name"

A typical name could for example be Jan Petter Vik Johansen

Jan being the first name, Petter the middle one, Vik being the mothers surname, and Johansen being the fathers surname.
Petter, and Vik would effectively be middle names, while Johansen would be the proper surname.

Isn't that what they do in America too? Always seemed weird to me.

Long names are an iberian thing.

No you are thinking of when wankers do hyphen names if the mother didn’t take her husband’s name.

Standard in the US is first, middle and surname.

Surely the hyphenated thing occurs sometimes in the UK?

I meant names like "George Walker Bush". You can find a load more examples of this.

No, usually that's just the middle name, or an extension of the first name (to be more unique).

They add another name for every innocent indian they tortured during the colony.

Which one would you?
