Was there ever a anglo-german unification movement akin to pan Germanism or the proposed Franco-British unions throughout history? Watching they shall not grow old and hearing the veterans talk about how they thought they should have been fighting with the Germans against the French and Russians makes me think that WWI was seen as kin slaying and thus our national perceptions towards one another have changed especially post both world wars.
Also side note why did no other nations bother to remaster their war footage for the centenary? It's so sad they could not even be bothered.

Oh wait this was for /his/

There really wasn't time for such a movement to get real support. Germany became a unified country in the 1870s, the Anglo-German naval arms race started in the 1890s-WWI, Germany was either a wreck or openly antagonistic to GB from Armistice-WW2, and since then there hasn't been much strength in big pan-nationalist unification movements aside from the EU

Shut up you kraut proxy

what's the context of this image
why did they not kill eachother

it was a different time

Early in the war they didn't hate each other that much.

By late war it's a surprise that they held themselves back from crucifying each other.

christmas truce?

one of them is a POW
not Christmas Truce, that was 1914/1915, by then German soldiers still wore the Pickelhaube, not the steel helmet
also just because it's war doesn't mean they aren't humans anymore..

The UK was too strong for people to seek strength in unifying with foreigners. With the rate the German population was growing after unification, it would make no sense too. If the Germans weren't so autistic and started both war worlds (Austrians both times at that lol), they would number around 150 million.

>also just because it's war doesn't mean they aren't humans anymore..
Yeah, and there are stories from concentration camps of guards saving prisoners, or conveniently forgetting them.

Good deeds from one doesn't discount the majority.

>Good deeds from one doesn't discount the majority.
never claimed it does

Saving Ryan’s private’s says all krauts must die

I've converted to Roman Catholicism.

>they should have been fighting with the Germans against the French and Russians
how likely was this though?
afaik there were more chances of france & germany against britain than this

heretic

I wish the UK had joined with the Germans or at least stayed out of it, imagine losing a million men for the sake of the cunts to the south who've been nothing but trouble for this country. All British intervenion did anyway was ensure the whole thing would be a stalemate and so a completely pointless waste of time.

>how likely was this though?
could've maybe happened during the Anglo-Russian rivalry in Central Asia (Great Game)
France and Britain had some disputes over colonies too, but so did every country
definitely couldn't happen with Wilhelm II's foreign policy
generally, Britain always sided against the strongest continental power to prevent hegemony on the continent (which would threaten their naval supremacy)
during the late 18th and early 19th century, Germany was the strongest continental power, so Britain wasn't interested in supporting it

Its an English POW being given a cigarette by a German. The Germans and Brits were quite friendly because they war wasn't taking place on their homelands case and point the Cristimas truce. Another example is the Rearguard Affair of Étreux:
>The 2nd Royal Munster Fusiliers, had been ordered to hold its ground at all costs, in their first action in France. Less than a battalion strength, just three companies of the 2nd Battalion of the Munsters supported by a couple of field guns engaged the German attackers.[16] The Munsters fell back to an orchard near Étreux and as night fell on the evening of 27 August, found themselves surrounded; having exhausted their ammunition, they surrendered.[16] In the action at Ètreux, only four officers and 240 other ranks of the 2nd Munsters survived but the Battalion prevented German pursuit of the BEF I Corps, gaining valuable time for the BEF to escape.[17] They were outnumbered at odds of over 6:1 and when finally defeated, the survivors were congratulated by the Germans.

He's completely spot on.

heretic

Then revolt.
Beating the British government is easy.

no, a union has never been feasible or desirable for either the english or the germans. there have been notions of brotherhood and alliance though

unlikely in the geopolitical context of the time, possibly impossible too if you're a cynic. from a historical context though, predating the WWs, the english rarely fought the germans and very often fought with them against the french. this and the anglo-saxon romanticism of the victorians lead to the generation of englishmen fighting WW1 to have an immense amount of respect and camaraderie towards germany, much more so than they had for france if you believe certain sources. of course by the end of the war, any goodwill the english had for germany was decimated and they soon replaced france as the national enemy.

me too
surprising how much food fits into it, right?
>inb4 some sex joke

>That clip
Fuck my soul hurts this was such a good film.

Reminder that Cecile Rhodes (the greatest briton to ever live) believed in an anglo german alliance consisting of America, the empire and Germany to bring peace to the entire planet
Truly too good for this world

Edward grey, Cecil Rhodes was a massive ouiboo

Youre not the first guy who thought that

It clearly wasnt
That anti-anglosaxon sentiment was from the Normans but even Vikings frowned upon their cousins before

who doesn't hate saxons?
scum of the earth

maybe if you use the deep portion for food
well, we never got more food per meal than what would fit in the low portion so i used the low portion for food and the deep one for drinks

You should still like them since they unified your country (Wessex)
Even though culturally the isles span from the Mercian supremacy period which is why you call your people English and so the language
Had the Mercians not being so successful early on and you would habe spoken a language more akin to modern day German (Saxon, Low German)

Nevertheless Wessex repelled the Vikings and the norse once for all in your island

*from your island

but you are half of that

The common Englishman or German had and has no wish for conflict or even war with his neighbors. It's always a (((small group of elites))) that drives the people against each other, because it's profitable and it benefits their goals.

No more brother wars. No more whites against whites.

>Was there ever a anglo-german unification movement
>Brits ever liking Germans or anybody from the Continent
"Made in Germany" was made by British resentment ffs, know your own history, Bong

;__;

are there any commonalities between england and these continental regions stemming from the shared ancestry? or not really?

In the early years of the 20th century there were indeed signs of an emerging Anglo-German culture. Then Wilhelm decided he wanted big shiny battleships that go boom and make his willy go hard and things went sour.
