Any questions about the Scots language?
I can talk about Early Scots, Middle Scots or Modern Scots.

How much information can your language give in just one word?
>أَفَاسْتَسْقَيْنَاكُمُوهَا
>Afástasqaynákumáhá
>Have we you (dual) to give it (feminine) to us to drink from?

Language challenge

Easy
>Do you like coffee or tea?
>Do you want sugar or cream in your coffee?
>Please give me a black coffee.
>That will cost you $2.

Medium
>Tomorrow I am going to my daughter's tea party, so I am buying her favorite tea.
>Mr. Cuddles, her teddy bear, and our cat, Muffin, will also be attending.
>Did you know that the Chinese have been drinking tea for more than two thousand years?
>Americans prefer iced tea over hot tea and tend to put a lot of sugar in it.

Hard
>Coffee was first introduced in the 15th century, and to this day it maintains its status as one of the most popular beverages, with millions of coffee drinkers worldwide.
>The black brew is made from ripe berries which are picked from the coffee plant, processed and dried.
>Once dry, these beans are roasted and ground to be brewed into the coffee drink we all know and love.
>Over the centuries, coffee has grown into a multi-billion dollar industry and become part of our lifestyle and even cultural phenomena.

We have some words that can have 10 different meanings.

Lol, I was just about to post a lang challenge

The american brain can't understand language. We didn't need it.

Post it anyway

there are never enough lang challenges

Eh, I don't wanna start a war, but should I learn French or German? I like both, but I don't got much time to spend learning both.

only one of them is actually useful
pro tip: people who speak rule the EU

Hebrew?

Tsez

That is actually Scots. Lowlanders rule the world.

Aye

Learn Shilha. This is the a very conservative widely spoken Berber language.

haha i got epic trolled

Easy
>The bird is blue.
>I saw him yesterday.
>She bought roses.
>The guitar is new.

Medium
>I don't understand why he did that.
>The pool was too cold, so I didn't swim in it.
>What steps do I do to solve this equation?
>I would do anything for you, don't hesitate to ask.

Hard
>The company does not take slander lightly and will not hesitate to contact a law firm if needed.
>Gardening mushrooms requires specific nutrients in the soil and adequate shade in order to produce the best yield.
>The last time we saw each other was when her hazel eyes started to tear up and her dainty lips whispered, "We are over."

>Brasil is braw Ryk nor Chilé . auchts mair pense an wysheid wichtis.

Frisian, eh? I considered learning dutch too, but wouldn't know how useful would it be

> (You)
>haha i got epic trolled
How?

Best not to respond to him. He's not well.

I tried French on duolingo but Idk I feel like if I want to learn anything properly I'll have to take courses

Yeah... Frisian...

Facile

My problem with duoling is that he doesnt explain how something comes to be
In French, for example, he doesnt shows how the fuck am I supposed to know when the word is plural or not (because they don't pronounce the S), I just have to guess it right

Google translate cucked me?
Oh wow

That is Scots.
How am I "not well"?

After studying classical Chinese for a bit I am starting to wonder why it was given up.
Japanese and Mandarin both use twice as many characters to get across the same verbs.

>That is Scots.
It did translated from Frisian though

Attached: Screenshot_20190922-161603_Translate.jpg (1080x2340, 334K)

that is because of;
>pense
plural of pens in Frisian but means "thought" in scots.
>ryk
same meaning
>auchts
means also in Frisian but "owns" in scots
>an
same meaning
>wysheid
same meaning
>wichtis
means important in Frisian but in this context it means people in scots

so it said that because 1/2 the words are the same.

I see

Yeah, sorry, I don't speak norf

Neither do I.

lel

telling me learn berber because i am french haha amazing
upvoted

what do you mean
les, des etc are enough to know if its plural

I think I got it
"Brasil is fine Empire as Chile. Owns greater thought and wise people."

it isn't because you are French. I am learning Shilha and was trying to encourage others to do the same. I never meant to insult you.

That's just how french is, many of those differences are only written, not pronounced
Duolingo is still shit though

you should learn some paki language then retard

Almost.
Brasil is a better kingdom than chile. it owns more thoughts (is smarter would be a better English translation) and wise people.

Yeah, but I'm saying in the speech. It's kinda hard to know when it's plural for non-french speaker.
>Les hommes manger les oranges

What a curious language indeed

why? I have no intersest in hindii. I am interested in shilha.

If it was singular it would be
>L'homme mange l'orange
The articles would be different even in the spoken language

It's still different:
>L'homme mange l'orange
vs
>Les hommes mangent les oranges
Homme/hommes, mange/mangent and orange/oranges sound the same, but 'les' sounds different from 'le'.

Yeah, bad example. Maybe that's duolingo's fault. Nonetheless, my interest in learning french still is up.

I can still see your point, something like "il mange" is indistinguishable from "ils mangent", but then again it's the same problem in english if i say "you eat"

>learning a language instead of acquiring it

Easy
>Do you like coffee or tea?
Kamu suka kopi atau teh?
>Do you want sugar or cream in your coffee?
Kamu mau gula atau kepala susu di kopiku?
>Please give me a black coffee.
Tolong beri aku kopi hitam.
>That will cost you $2.
Harganya 20.000rp (dua-puluh-ribu rupiah).

Medium
>Tomorrow I am going to my daughter's tea party, so I am buying her favorite tea.
Besok aku pergi ke pesta teh putriku, jadi aku membeli teh disenanginya.
>Mr. Cuddles, her teddy bear, and our cat, Muffin, will also be attending.
Pak Cuddles, boneka beruangnya, dan kucing kami, Muffin, akan datang juga.
>Did you know that the Chinese have been drinking tea for more than two thousand years?
Kamu tahu bahwa orang Tiongkok/Cina(?) minum teh selama lebih dari dua-ribu tahun?
>Americans prefer iced tea over hot tea and tend to put a lot of sugar in it.
Orang Amerika suka es teh bukannya teh panas dan mereka suka tembahkan banyak gula di situ.

Easy
¿Te encanta café o té?
¿Quieres azúcar o crema en tu café?
Dame un café negro por favor
Eso costará dos dolares

Medium
Mañana iré a mijas té siesta así que yo compro su té favorito

I kek'd at this image

this.
today I have accidental learned several hanzii for classical Chinese. and have deliberately learned 15, not by rote.

What language are they speaking

youtu.be/VjuHYvieJlw

Easy
>Magst du Kaffee oder Tee?
>Willst du Zucker oder Sahne in deinem Kaffee?
>Das wird zwei dollar kosten.
Medium
>Morgen gehe ich zum ein Tee-Party meines Tochter, so ich kaufe ihre Lieblingstee.
>Herr Kuscheln, ihre Teddy-Bär, und unsere Katze, Muffin, wird auch besuchen.
Weißt du, dass die Chinesen hat Tee vor zwei Tausend Jahren getrunken?

I'm guessing Afrikaans.

How different are the various types of Greek? I want to read Homer and the New Testament, do I really have to treat it like learning two separate languages?

Attached: download (1).jpg (224x224, 9K)

Should I keep trying? Its not like im going to ever leave my cunt or meet a foreign real human bean..

> I want to read Homer and the new testament
Judging by how many centuries Homer wrote before the new testament was written, what is your conclusion? The Greek language has existed for 2000+ years. If I read the new testament now maybe I could understand some parts of it while with Homer I would understand some words, maybe even a sentence. Don't treat them like different languages since there are many similarities but be ready to learn the grammatical rules for classical and byzantine Greek(byzantine Greek is somehow more confusing than classical, at least to a Greek speaker)

Jow Forums, convince me why i shouldn't just pirate some Spanish Beginner's coursebook so i can start learning it.

Pirate it

Can I say

Was hatten Sie you gerne? in any context?

what would you like?

>Jow Forums, convince me why i shouldn't just pirate
Eh.. no? Just pirate away, lad.

what are signs of progression. i feel like sometimes i've made no progress with a second language. putting sentences together is like a puzzle in my head. i sound like a kid and have no humor. did you ever have a AHA! moment and then could talk fluently?

why would I do that tho
Set them sails dude

My conclusion is that it's not worth the effort to learn a language just to read 1 author, but if there's significant overlap between Koine, Classical, Byzantine, and Modern Greek it would be worth the time investment.

yo ho ho

reason i'm asking is because literally all of the wiki resources are fucking free trials, no coursebooks or anything.
i appreciate the literature, the music, the movies and series recommended but give me a good begginer's coursebook, not some fucking online shit that will cost me my fucking scrotum per year.

It's education, I think there's nothing wrong with pirating educational material desu

youtube.com/watch?v=i8ju_10NkGY

Its just happens

Depending on which book you order, a coursebook will cost on average, I don't know $50 to $70, less if you want used and more if you want fancy. I don't know about wages in Moldova but it doesn't seem very very expensive to buy physical books properly

>I don't know about wages in Moldova
Clearly

rip Robbie Rotten ;_;

What's your local library like?

Attached: 1527883245542s.jpg (193x250, 10K)

shit's expensive here, especially if you go to one of those "international bookstores" that specializes in selling foreign books.
local libraries don't really carry foreign language coursebooks unless they were made and approved by the Ministry of Education (like our English, French and Russian coursebooks).
so Spanish coursebooks and coursebooks for other languages are usually just sold at bookstores for an astronomical price.
thankfully, i just found a good coursebook on archive.org but i'll need to somehow remove the gay ass Adobe DRM before my borrowing period ends.

Guise, spanish or portuguese?

Based Ministry of Education only allowing French, Russian and English coursebooks.

sounds like afrikaans with some english thrown in there

Maybe

just pirate it man there are lots of resources for spanish in

That's called polysemy. The only one in portuguese that I knnow of that has that many meanings is "aba", which has 11 entries in the online dictionary "Dicionário Priberam da Língua Portuguesa".

why?

>Willst du Zucker oder Sahne in deinem Kaffee?

How to know when to use Wollen or Benötigen?

I just don't like Spanish very much.

Judge my russian accent.

>American
>doesn't like Spanish
i get that but...
that's also one of the reasons why i want to learn Spanish.
because i want to move into the town where my gf lives, somewhere in the South-West of Texas.
so if im gonna get a job there, i might as well learn to understand what beaners bean about.

Krauts are pussies, am i right? xd

how did you acquire mexicana gf from moldova?

Somewhat related, it always confused me that English speakers say "vet" or "vet's" when they refer to the animal doctor. I always confused it with veterans and shit.

through the wonders of the internet...
or, to be exact, i met her on Jow Forums.
she isn't fully bean, she's half bean, half white but from the photos she sent, she looks extremely white.
