Yes. But only if that life interests you

is school easy for you and you don't really need much sleep? then maybe

otherwise there's way easier ways to get money than chasing 'muh prestige'

only if you become a surgeon. GPs are snake oil salesmen and glorified nurses.

Why would anyone want to become a doctor. It is boring and you have to work so much. But what do I know I m just a NEET

for the love of insurance codes

Only if you want stay in your room all day studying.

Dont forget the 12 hour shifts.

Money is decent but you have to work silly hours and very stressful.

Only if you're going to see it through to the end. If you're not dedicated to it, it's going to be a waste of time and money. Remember the years of clinical internship you'll have to do after finishing the school portion.

>Pros
one of the best employing field, guaranteed job unlike most fields, highest pay

>Cons
requires lots of schooling, hard work, and the work eventually sucks ass too

Do go to med school if:
- you get into a top 20 school
- you have a deep personal drive to be a physician

Don't go to med school:
- if either of the above are not true

PGY-5 RESIDENT HERE

DO NOT GO TO MEDICAL SCHOOL

IT'S A TRICK NOBODY LIKES BEING A DOCTOR

Something inbetween
DO NOT choose muh action speciality, yopu burn out and kys after 10 years
Residency will leave you on the edge of suicide
Medicine sucks because you are becoming more and more of a monkey guideline follower.
i miss the experimenting and creativity. That is a big no in medicine unless you like jail.
Hospitalist job will have you looking for a rope within 3 years
but choose a comfy subspeciality and it's not bad.
I work 50/50 outpatient practice and lab
feelsgoodman

nah

AI will replace medical doctors in 10 years

Can you do it debt free? If so yes, if not, no.

this shows how little you understand about medicine
for all the retards here who think they understand medicine, heres a few facts:
- by the time we see you, we know what you have or dont have
- every article you read written by a non doctor is medically incorrect and written to appeal to your ego, not your good sense
- at the end of the day there is no way to even remotely understand what is being told to you without a medical background; to that end find a doctor you like/trust and have them make the decisions

Medicine is a literal meme that's only ever chased by people who want muh prestige and don't actually care about the job. Evidence of this is all of the people who try to get into medicine, fail, and instead of going into nursing do something completely different but with a similarly pointless idea of prestige like law.

OP, if you're an idiot who just got through school by memorising everything then you'll do well as a doctor. If you actually want any kind of job satisfaction, do something else like engineering. If you're not too autistic and actually like medicine, try studying nursing and going down the management path.

>engineering
>satisfaction

top kek my engineering friends want to hang themselves. they sit in a cubicle all day crunching away on computers doing stupid shit

this is close but it gets at the real paradox of medicine: after you learn medicine its not that hard
for those truly high iq people they will be unchallenged in practice
medical research is more grunt work than novel thought
the very top split 50/50 clinical versus bench, but that ruins your life

Currently not a chance It can't take responsibility.
Would be jailed and banned after a week.
You may manage 500 patients correctly then fuck up one and it's ogre.forever.

If all you're doing is memorising symptoms and linking them to known illnesses, you're basically just a human database. There's no real intelligence needed to memorise a ton of shit.

To replace doctors, all we need is a good way to digitise symptom data.

human error kills way more patients that one in 500

their fault, I'm doing engineering on medical instruments and it's pretty exciting to build stuff that may save lives

again, this shows how absolutely zero you understand what we do
the diagnosis and treatment are essentially done before we see you
the human interaction, answering questions and discussing relevance of alternative options is why people pay for a doctor
and people refuse to be operated on by people they havent met

But doctors kill people through malpractice all the bloody time.
If anybody else killed as many people as doctors the entire profession would be under so much scrutiny you'd never get anything done.

>Engineers kill 43 people when a bridge collapses in Italy
>International news, you probably recognise it
>Doctors kill 250,000 people per year in the US alone
>Nobody bats an eyelid

What is neural network.
I've worked with two different AI systems, watson included, they are unable to make a clear call.
The second AI is aprticularly dumb, when I feed it symptoms of patient with pancreatic cancer, it diagnoses hypertension. Fucking genius really.
> Consider, this...maybe this, maybe that, it's most likely that Dx, but this is only an advice, any desicion is solely your respoinsibility.

glad you like your craft. they work on important stuff too but obsessing over a discrete component in a large apparatus for months or years at a time becomes soul sucking

how much do you hate people ?Depends on your answer.

yeah right, how about the number of miscarriages every year? women kill so many people

Attached: 1517086392699.png (638x359, 247K)

I finish this year

My body is a wreck
My mind is full of nonsense

At least i can do interesting stuff and get paid for it

Expect to get fucked in the ass...you get much money but your body will show you the reason you get the cash for.
Would do it again...only need 4 hours sleep...learn to drink coffee and take coffein pills every day

You just need to train a classifier well and you have the best doctor that ever lived

>Yeah, so I fucked up a professional judgement call and killed a few people
>But that's exactly the same thing as a biological process that the mother has no control over!

Jej, fuck doctors. Just a bunch of unionist cunts who hide behind their governmental influence to avoid any kind of professional responsibility. Doctors who negligently kill people should be treated the same as drivers who fall asleep at the wheel and hit pedestrians.

>just
that's the mother of all JUST

> I finish this year
you didn't even start the torture kek

Attached: 50a.jpg (470x595, 201K)

top kek. Yeah that's just what IBM is trying for decades. I would welcome competent AI, currently the doc is endpoint in responsibility.
If I could point finger at someone saying "It wasn't me", I would bill twice as much patients at least. Without almost any stress.

>I want to be replaced
>Because once I'm redundant I can charge more
How does this work user?

Processing.......
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REQUESTED: SEXUAL HISTORY
Processing dicks sucked coefficient.......
Calculating.......
Diagnosis: AIDS

There are better ways to make money, user.

It makes sense actually. Most people want the doctor there, they wouldn't trust it if it was just a machine there. This is why crypto will ultimately fail too. There's no way in hell normies will trust a decentralized blockchain over a bank. They want to go to the bankster/doctor look them in the eyes and shake their hand. That's trust to them. Not some tech that just spits out information at you lol.

Absolutely fucking not.

You'll be 30 before you start making any real money AND have $250k to $400k in debt @ 5%

What a fucking joke.

If you become an Electrician or Plumber at 18 and are very savvy and invest properly you'll be a millionaire by 40.

Listen to this user I am currently a resident and it is absolutely miserable. You hear this bullshit that medicine is a calling but I can honestly say that most doctors do not truly enjoy what they do whether or not they will admit it.

This is important right here.

People need to take stock of what constant stress, lack of sleep, and lack of exercise does to the human body.

$300k a year ain't gonna be so great when you are practically catatonic from all the stress and your body looks like shit.

>do you want to be a doctor?
If yes, go.
>if no
Don’t go.
>or is the real question, can someone decide for me what I really want in life instead of me having to take responsibility for my own actions and life decisions and come up with a decision on my own?
Then stop shitting up our board and learn to be an adult.

Fucking biz.

Bingo.

Not a doctor myself but I know quite a few. None of them seem happy.

One guy did okay though. He is an anesthesiologist and I think he is happy with the work and the money. I think he works like 10 days a month and is still right around $300k a year.

I graduate this year.
Medicine was the worst mistake of my life. It has crushed my spirit and left me without the will to live.
People who I went to school with, who were dumber than me, are now making more money than I will be for the next 5 years. And they'll do it by working easier jobs, for fewer hours.
The golden age of the medical profession is long gone. Once upon a time, doctors commanded respect and prestige, they worked hard and earned great money. Now it's just all gone to shit. Only a sadist or a cuck would go into the medical profession today.

Well it works in a way you offshore your software developement to panjeet.
I offset time and resource demanding shitty aspects of my job to an AI.

become a specialist in endo related shit (no pun intended) so you can swindle all of the boomers out of their shekels

Stop mentioning it...let me live in this university bubble at least some months more

To be fair i went to the military in my country and i had to do military stuff and extra work besides studying in regular time...it was a huge fuck up but hey i got paid for studying and now i can buy a house at the age of 23

This. Idealists stop studying or burnout during/just after. Who stays are people with interest in the science and a strong body/mind.

Hate all the women...while studying they always say " i am an independent strong doctor" and just afterwards they always rely on their male colleagues.
Female doctors are the biggest mistake ever made. I genuinely hate them.

>engineering
Medicine probably does suck, but engineering is a fucking joke. At least there is some satisfaction to problem solving real life scenarios, but the job us not prestigious at all.
>t. M.E intern

The older generation maybe but the younger generation is more keen to interacting with technology.

I would definitely do it if I thought there was a chance I could (physically or cognitively).

However, the chances of you browsing chans in your spare time will be zero if you're to be a good doctor. I don't think anybody wants to see a hungover/drowsy doc, regardless the issue.

If you are admittedly Chad in mind, body, and spirit - then yes, please do. Good Drs are forever in short supply.

Ok so
>engineering sucks
>medicine is a meme
>law will make you suicidal
>finance is even worse
>being a code monkey also sucks
>trades suck and ruin your body
>all other fields are oversaturated or useless with no job prospects

So wait are you all saying that there is not a single thing to do in this world that does not suck? How the fuck can you choose if all options are shit?

>by the time we see you, we know what you have or dont have

Holy shit go fuck yourselve

there are some unsaturated fields that are actually pretty fun, give decent money for the time invested, and give your quiet a bit of freedom.

but no way am I sharing that shit otherwise those options will get ruined too

Empathy inherent in Doctors’ profession is here to say. But Nutrigenomics and Finctional Medicine needs to be at forefront of management or chronic deseases. Ask a GP about methylation and watch their responses. This is where AI will improve our lives.

Well thanks for nothing then user
why can you not at least share the fields you are not going into?

12 hour shifts.?
AHAHAHAHAHHAAH
I'M on duty since last Monday.
Once you get inside the machine there is no way out

t. 33 yo boomer doctor

I contemplated med school, but I realized I didn’t want to help degenerate NPCs

Medicine is an art and a science. Some things cannot be taught, you feel them. For all the clinical studies and scientific blabbering there is a guy or a girl that felt something and decided to study it.
I get a great deal of satisfaction when I fix my patients up, but sometimes the daily grind wears you down. Medicine is like falling in love with a rock, even if you love it it's still hard af

Actually I'm a doctor. I'm on duty. Browsing Jow Forums.
Playing overwatch.
And watching Kuroinu.
Would probably play nu doom later.
Normalfags around me don't even have a clue of my power level. It's always about hiding your power level

Interestingly I find that my fellow doctor fags are the biggest NPC’s around. I guess it makes sense since they are willing to unquestionably put up with all the soul numbing nonsense that comes with being a doctor

Boomer here

Do radiology
Make around 450-550k
No nights
Off 1/3 year

Bonus:
Go to in state med school for cheap unless you’re planning on doing academia

Med school is ok. They’ll be some socially awkward people learning to party for the first time now that they have a group of like minded peers. May be more fun than college depending on how social you were. First year of residency sucks. Gets better when you’re at the top. Find a job with decent lifestyle. Who cares if you’re in a desirable city when you don’t have any time off to do anything and slaving away on non partnership tract. You’ll be making enough money to travel anywhere on your vacation time anyway if you do end up in a shit hole.

Yes. I’m a dermatopathologist and it’s a great life. I look in the microscope all day and never have to interact with patients. You get to help everyone you encounter and get paid quite a lot to do so. Med school is horrible but it doesn’t last forever. Good luck.

Yea lol. In my experience this is not true at all. I mean sometimes you literally have to google shit yourself because the doctor is so clueless.

By the time you've paid off your 400k student debt you'll be 40 with a net worth of a few hundred k while the Chad software engineer making 200k since age 21 is retired and worth several million.

I knew you were going to type that
t. med school graduate

How much do you make? I know of a dermatopathologist that makes 1.4 million a year. I just want to know how much of an outlier he is?
