As someone who used to be like you and now has a kid, I can say it’s definitely not as bad as you are assuming, and has given me perspective on life which honestly makes me feel intellectually elevated. There are definitely cons but it’s a net positive thus far. One of the reasons I decided to have a kid is because all of the older people I met and spoke with about it who were past due and didn’t have kids told me it was their one biggest regret in life. I have never met someone who didn’t have kids who felt like that was totally fine. The recognition of your mortality introduces an obvious recognition that all your money and success and good times were actually meaningless, and your only chance at giving any of it meaning is having a child to pass it all on to.
