it's smart because if you win the lottery you're set for life. just buy multiples of 2 because that way your odds are maximized- 2 tickets = double the odds of winning, 4 tickets = double the odds with 2 tickets, 8 tickets= double the odds of winnning with 4 tickets, whereas if you buy 3 tickets the 3rd ticket is only 33% better odds. So statistically you're much more likely to win if you buy in multiples of 2

Depends on what you mean by stupid. It's obviously a stupid "investment". But it's not neccesarily stupid if you treat it as entertainment. It's like "wasting" money on any other form of entertainment.

The odds of winning are almost impossible. For $1 though you can help out schools, and daydream about what you would do with the cash all day. At the end of the day though you basically just burned a dollar. There are way more destructive habits though that cost a lot more so I cant hate on lottery players too much.

i.e. if you buy 10 of the first 100,000 tickets, your odds of winning are 1 in 10,000 but if you buy those 10 tickets in the first 10,000,000 your odds are only 1 in a million
