Can we have a discussion about why or why not an expensive car is a reasonable investment?
I am of the mindset that a status symbol like a BMW which depreciates rapidly coupled with an absurd insurance premium is better spent on virtually anything else
The "Nice Car" scam

If cars depreciate fast and exponentially, what happens when you buy the bottom of such a dump?
If your car decreases in value as time goes on, then it probably wasn't that expensive to begin with.
Costly maintenance
The only vehicle worth spending any money on is an apocalypse escape vehicle.
2018 thots literally don´t get the difference between a mazda and a mercedes so why wasting money if you can have thots with a mazda

A nice car, like most women, is a sunk cost. It's not a direct investment and will only help you in indirect ways. A nice car, like a nice girlfriend is only a status symbol which will make you better in the eyes of normies. If that enhancement is worth it or not or if you can use it to reach a direct investment, is completely up to you.
>expensive
>reasonable
You would have to come up with an objective definition for these terms.
I consider my Ferrari to be reasonable, but this is due to what I consider expensive.
There's a huge difference between buying a car as an investment that you expect to appreciate and buying a car that you will use as a daily driver. That's not to say spending a little extra on the daily driver is a bad idea for all. It is a bit decadent to do so but most wouldn't move from a house or apartment to a tar shack because the house/apartment costs more
Also, cars are only status symbols for the insecure
>car
>investment
A car isn’t an investment. I got a nice car because it was what I wanted and I’m not living paycheck to paycheck to pay for it
This. Nissan Fairlady or MX5 is good enough.
When I make it I'm going to buy a Lexus LC500. It's not for thots direclty, but rather to remind my wife that I can fuck any girl I want to. She seems to have forgotten this over the years. Also I think that the LC500 will hold it's value very well and will be collectable in the future.
I'd also like an old NSX but they're in a bubble right now.
Any user that makes it and spends it all on a lambo or whatever deserves to stay poor
yeah its a depreciating asset in most cases
really all i care about is reliability and fuel efficiency and also aesthetics to a degree. brand name doesnt matter. hondas are more reliable then most luxury car brands probably but i dont know, dont quote me on that.
but if impressing shallow people is part of how you make money then it does become an investment that pays for itself.
just as long as you dont have any delusions about being able to keep it running longer then a few years at most. gaskets rot and who will be making gaskets, thats just one example of many parts that need regular replacement that you cant stockpile for a decade or two into the future because it will just rot on your shelf
I wanna buy a large suv to take me and friends skiing n shit, anyone recommend anything? Chevy tahoe/suburbans are okay but for their size they're not actually that roomy
It just needs to get me far into isolated country and then it can just be a shelter
long term youd be better off with a horse
learn how to ride a horse and then find a horse during the apocolypse somehow i dunno. i was about to say get a bicycle but how long do tires last. legs it is then. fuck i need to work out
The only reason i would ever buy a lambo is to get pussy. Imagine taking a girl out on your sportscar, she would steal your sperm fast as fuck (unless youre a techie beta).
Cars are liabilities.
yeah, if you have off road escape plans. dont depend on any plan that requires a clear stretch of road if shit hits the fan hard enough the traffic will be insane, cars crashing and blocking the road. even smaller roads, a single overturned vehicle... hmmm,,, get a tow winch so you can just move shit out of the way. it would make a good shelter especially if you could still drive off in it during emergencies
You're right OP, it is a status symbol. It's a status symbol to indicate that you have enough money to buy shit that you know depreciates, just because you personally like it. A real status symbol is to be able to spend large amounts of money just for fun. If you either: don't like nice cars, or you are buying one to overcompensate for normies perception of your wealth, you're a fucking pleb. I just happen to like nice cars personally.
>Blocks your path
Pic rel is the only redpilled car.
Keep falling for your overpriced jewish toys on 4 wheels goyim, just take a little overtime ;))
Looks like it costs more than it's actually worth, but it does look interesting
There are 2 types of brainlets in this thread. The ones that think it's an investment, and the ones that thibk it's a status symbol.
A sports car is a fun toy that corners fast and accelerates quick, and it takes a chad to enjoy driving it
cars are never an investment
This. Most betas who buy lambos/etc are afraid to even accelerate in a straight line
Honestly the Toyota FJ Cruiser can't be beat for mountainous terrain.
This.
there is no reason
you will get the same ride comfort as an audi, bmw, or mercedes in a toyota prius, skoda superb, or even better, an old lexus ls 400, with much lower tax, insurance premium, value deprecation, and maintenance
there is no reason to buy expensive cars unless you are a nigger in body or mind
have a LITTLE bit of respect for yourself
> t. incel
I share your mindset as well but I am struggling to decide what car to buy myself these days.
My 2 options are 2013-15 toyota rav4 or a 2018 nissan xtrail (rouge for murricas).
Both options are top spec with automatic and awd (norways is a cold and slippery bitch).
Rav4 has already sunk a bit in value but over here they retain very good resale price. It has very little extra tech, costs more to insure and my option (petrol) has the worse mileage cost of the two.
The Xtrail will lose more value in the start but has a ton of extra tech in it, a lot of safety gear as well. Better mileage cost (diesel) and cheaper to insure.
Xtrail will cost around 60% more at the point of purchase.
For me it`s a hard choice, Rav4 makes most economic sense to me but the Xtrail just gives me the feels and it`s tech makes it a lot more comfy and safer.
I make enough to afford either of them without stretching my finances. It`s simply a matter of worth it or not.
Also, sorry for wall. Trump made me pay for it.
that's not a tacoma
go with the rav4 and a 2015 if you can find it, you should be able to get one of them with a bunch of extra tech too
i drove one of those a year or so ago when i was buying my car, it had satnav, bluetooth, pre-collision system, etc. dont really know what else you would really want
also drove a nissan qashqai 2014 and the rav4 was more enjoyable to drive, but im not sure about the xtrail
try them before you buy them
i ended up getting a 2016 prius and i really like it, its smooth and comfortable and quiet, a bit more pricey than i would have liked but i got financing over 5 years at 1.75% interest so its fine
The Rav4`s over here didn`t get all that extra tech before they got to the 2016 hybrid models and those are a no go due to the batterypack that sticks up right behind the rear seats and in short makes it a bit unsuited compared to the older model.
Older model does have satnav though so that is nice.
I inherited an mercedes c class amg 2008
it's an absolute !monster! and has only 40.000 miles
I am not even thinking to sell it, ever.
thats too bad
check out the subaru outback or xv too though, they were really nice to drive, especially with cvt
couldnt tell you about reliability or maintenance impacts of cvt but i've heard good things from my colleague who owns one
>Toyota
Have some more respek
Well, you can buy literally any car, but you need to preserve it for 50+ years. Imagine what you paid for a car 1968, and for what you can sell it in brand new condition today. Its a long term hold, but damn...
Only limited edition supercars go up in value and almost nobody daily drives those because they would go down in value. Most expensive cars depreciate rapidly.
Accepting car depreciation is just a pill you have to swallow. A car is a tool, not an investment. Get one that's reliable and that you can drive for years and years and avoid the constant pressure to upgrade to the latest fad. Nobody cares what you drive.
Spending more on a premium vehicle when a comparable substitute exists is a waste of money. You might as well throw it out the window, because that’s essentially what you’re doing, especially if you buy new.
>I want a $100,000 vroombox
For what purpose? I hardly need to ask. It’s to show society that you’re important and valuable. And that’s worth $80,000 to you. A much better way to spend that $80k is obviously to invest and get a return. Instead people like to spend it on something that costs money to own and use, is meant to wear out, loses value over time, and comes with a nice markup.
The purpose of flashy cars is literally just to broadcast your status to the world. Ironically, people make themselves broke so others don’t think they’re broke.
>pic related, warren buffet’s car.
Cars are not appreciating assets, period. Only specific cars are and they are typically one of a kind, limited production, expensive at launch, and have a cult following. Think testarossa or countach. Even they depreciate until they get old enough to be special if kept in good condition.
BMW sedans are not such cars.
My 2000 ford taurus leaves most cars in the dirt.
Why not just get a nice bike instead.
They're more fun.
Why would anyone buy any car thats not a Honda Civic?
If you want a sports car, get a Miata
If you want a truck, get a F150
theres no other car worth buying
this car is pure sadness. every time I got inside it I was hit with a wave of depression. the cheap cloth seats inside smells like poverty. im being dramatic but god damn I hated that car
Go for hte RAV4. Nissan transmissions a peice of shit
I cant quite put a finger on it but there is something super gay about mx5
Thanks. From the reports I have read, Rav4 with cvt is very reliable over here, the xtrail is supposed to be good as well but the edge goes to the rav, I will just have to keep looking and pondering. At least I am not in a rush.
So are negroes and mexicans but they're all over the place.
Bought new bmw 3 series, 2016 lci 330i m-sport.
2 years later it depreciated at least 3 bitcoins or 60k LINK, or whatever...
I love that car and way it drives -fuck it...if you cant do some -ROI investments to please yourself you are primed for sad existence anons.
If you buy it to IMPRESS others just kys.
1 thing I learned is to buy used 1-2 year old car next time and save some cash....1 year car is allmsot new and at least 1/3 price.
Is a Ford Raptor an unreasonable purchase?
not in new england. we had one token black guy in school and that was it.
fuck off brule you faggot
invite me to your new discord brule. Savage investors sucks dick
FUCKING LABEL IT
You learned, good for you.
Best price to value is 6months-2 years old with under 30k miles.
Never buy new unless you have fuck you money and you don't give a shit.
Just bought a 2015 Audi because I like how it drives and enjoy driving something nice.
personally I quite like owning my car outright; gives me the options of trading it in, selling it privately, passing it on to my children in a few years if I retain it, or just keeping it myself and running it to about 100,000+ miles then pretty much junking it.
can see why people would prefer to drive a company car / leasing their motor over the short/medium term, though.
>Can we have a discussion about why or why not an expensive car is a reasonable investment?
No because card aren't investments. Obviously a sports car or other enthusiast vehicle is not going to appeal to you because you are measuring it on the wrong criteria. To me it us worth it because cars are one of my biggest passions so the quality of my life increases dramatically thanks to a nice newer car. It's more about perceived value
The answer to the car thing is just buy a used Bmw merc or Audi, preferably Bmw or merc,
They are built to last, the look good, drive good even old models have nice interior and they all will do 200,000 miles easily.
Buy a 10 year old one that’s been looked after. Not a brand new one
I'm going to keep driving the jetta I inherited until its fucked.
It may not have been made within a decade or have any nice features but it gets me from point a to point b and I didn't need to pay shit since I got it from outliving my grandfather.
I would be embarrassed to drive a nice car because the CEO of my company drives a shitbox and my boss also drives a shitbox, so I’m glad I too drive a shitbox
HONDA CIVIC BABY. ITS LASTED ME FOR 100,000 MILES SO FAR. AND I GOT IT AT 150K.
ONLY 2K TO BUY
2K TO REPAIR
>bmw
>made to last
HOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Vertical axis is test and horizontal is brainpower?
>not a 99' Infiniti G20
user, I....
>Not realizing that some people spending $80k on a car is like him spending $1000 on a car and provides much more comfort and service quality and other benefits that I am not going to waste my time typing out
In my mind, in order to buy a $50,000 car brand-new and outright, you should probably make like at least 1.5 million a year before taxes
The only reason to have a nice car is:
A) you have tons of money so it really does not matter
B) Status is important for your particular career and driving a luxury car will help you make more money
Everything else, you should not be spending $30k+ on a car.
the toyota owners understand what it takes to make it. bonus points for those who aquire a shitty flatbed truck for any jobs the corolla can’t handle
>MX5
Are you one of those plebs whose car is so low that the rims are slanted?
Check out the airstream Mercedes Atlas for 220k at least get something with duel purpose
>this
Yeah cars are never an investment. Only either
A) a tool to get you point A to point B
B) a way to "reward" yourself with something that looks nice and has good features
Or you could just be one of those who just can't make sacrifices and spends 20% of their take home income on a massive car payment. But retarded grills tend to be the biggest offenders of that.
I leased a brand new Mercedes SLK Amg, when I was pretty much broke in 2013.
There are so many bullshitters in this world that no-one takes you seriously unless they see some sort of 'evidence' of success, and most people are too stupid to dig deeper.
It was a massive gamble, but in the long run it may have been worth it for me.
Good if you're trying to gain credibility for investment from rich contacts.
Otherwise it's just a liability.
Based and toyotapilled
The corolla is the AK-47 of cars
No.
>buy $1000 dollar car with decent tires
>buy $1000 dollar car with decent tires
>drive 1-4 years until one breaks down.
>Call junkyard, get 200-400 in melt value after they tow from roadside
>drive 2nd $1000 dollar car
> start looking for 3rd $1000 dollar car
> only require legal minimum liability insurance since replacement is less than a deductable
Been doing it for almost 15 years, no maintenance I couldn't finish myself in a day with under 150 in parts (my rule of thumb) Spent less on cars since 2010 taxes and fees are on a new car.
I spent a pretty reasonable amount of money on a second hand luxury sports sedan.
It cost me far less than a brand new shitbox, it puts a smile on my face every time I drive and it has a big impact on social standing in my industry.
It's reliable, relatively cheap to run and parts are both plentiful and cheap.
nissans make me orgasm. if you let go of a nissan's steering wheel it'll still pretty much drive itself even without any drive assists. stiffest fucking best most accurate fucking steering in a car. fucking GT-R anyone? and fucking nothing breaks on a nissan. not a thing and i dont care what anybody says. you can dip a nissan in a volcano and it drives better
Japanese cars in general seem to do well. Have a mitsubishi lancer, and the engine and transmission are flawless on it. Bought at 95k miles, now have 140k.
Seriously, Toyota, Honda, mitsubishi, Mazda.
Japan is the goat of carmakers.
subaru has lots of features and look just as good as bimmers. reliability seems good through anecdotes. the LS 500 is the prettiest car out there in my view. that dash and grill? the cut glass in the doors? nigguh waaaaaat. i cannot drive the more recent camries though. i feel like aladdin. if a speck of dust so much as touches my hand im in the telephone pole almost, it seems
Kys
Only the niggers are scum beyond saving
