how did you set this up? I've never gotten the EMA crosses to look like this

it *did* doesn't work well sideways, lmao yea maybe if you buy at 6000
there's no indicator that will be right every time but if you used it since the start of this year you would have made huge profits.

its just two EMAs, one at 12 and one at 169

your percentages are off because the price is way below your ema. you also pick a time frame where you switch fairly often between an up and downtrend. you would get faked out multiple times during a prolonged uptrend or you'd have to choose em lengths that won't get you faked out, but then you would lose significantly more on the sideways action. if you now say to just use it when you have sideways action, then you would already have to know that you have that kind of price action and then you could just trade it manually anyway. it's better then buy and hold, but not much over any reasonable time frame for your backtest.

if you don't exit yea, I just use a ema between the two to exit, its not my favorite strategy (too slow) but its definitely not bad. Again, where are you buying and holding? If you bought anything above 8k you're already down, sometimes by a huge amount.

With this you would at least be up by a bit - can even take a few % off the back test for more realism but again, def not bad.

what you have here is a strategy. you can build quite good systems based on moving averages, I built some myself too. I was thinking about including the bullrun from 2017, which is reasonable in my opinion as you don't know what kind of market you're in (except if you have some other method for that, but that's again something different). but like I said, it's better than buy and hold and it can be a reasonable strategy if you make it a bit more sophisticated.

Yea, trading theory is crazy though, hindsight is a bitch, found this strat out around March, could have sooner but eh.

I'd try to make something custom, then slowly iron out obvious trash trades.

Unironically I feel there's two types of trading strats. One's that work sideways/trend and one's that capture big moves but spam sideways.

What you have can kill you on a huge down trend, cause you never know when its gonna stop so you could potentially keep longing all the way down, huge drawdown.

this is last months performance. Its getting killed in this low volatility right now but it does work when we start swinging lmao.

Took me hours upon hours of research though, as of now I don't know a better way to go about it (make something then slowly make it better) so if anyone has better advice that would be great too.

try to detect if it's trending and then use different strategies based on that
